TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH April 26, 2015 -- Race 2
Race 2 of the TRI-TRACK SPRING RUSH nine race series was at TriCounty Hobbies NEW indoor carpet track. From Friday night’s warm-up race until Sunday mornings Race 2 there were plenty of both changes and surprises. The finishing touches and attention to detail showed us exactly why TriCounty Hobby Store & Raceway will be here to stay.
All of the 1/10 scale classes were represented and there was stiff competition right from the start. With 47 entries, we were able to space out the first 2 rounds of qualifiers and the racers had a lot more open space to run. 2WD Stock Buggy was tight with Tom Allen and Reuben Diaz taking TQ away from each other back and forth. By the end of the qualifying, Reuben edged out Tom by getting in an extra lap by roughly 2 seconds. Next up, 2WD Modified Buggy with Bart Collins crossing that loop and getting that extra lap to TQ over Daniel Martinez by less than a second. In 2WD Modified Stadium Truck the Father and Son team of Jeff and Corey Record took the top 2 spots with Corey handily beating out dad. Then there was the 4 WD Buggy class running hard and fast, pushing the track as hard as it has ever been. Felix Law, fresh back from China, got the TQ point by a solid lap from Gavin Butera and the rest of the field. Finally, the BASH class of Pro 4 Modified SCT. After 3 heats, 2 rounds and more bumping than a full day at the State Fair’s bumper cars ride. The smoke cleared and Daniel Paz took TQ and the point over Big Boss Beef himself, Jeff Kranz to end the qualifiers and get us into the mains.
We stacked the field with 8 cars and 2 bumps which took this indoor carpet track to it’s limits. It was tight, it was tough, it was chaos, carnage and utter inhalation. However, in the end…there can be only one. Some days it’s harder to win and the field gets evened out by all types of surprises. Today, was that day. The only “B” main had the same leader Jared Cooper from Race 1’s (bigger track) “B” main to make the jump into the “A”. So all-in-all, after the comments and worries, it was how it should have been.
The Featured Main’s started with 2WD Stock and Jeff Kranz coming up from 3rd to take 1st while Reuben Diaz and Tom Allen dropped to 2 and three. All 3 were within 7.629 seconds from first. 2WD Modified Buggy was a free-for-all and the placements showed it. When the craziness ended Corey Record, Daniel Chavez and Daniel Martinez took the top 3 spots and ended with some space in between. 2WD Modified Stadium Track Corey maintained his perfect day and took 1st in all three heats, while Rueben Diaz finally finished a heat, and it was the one that counted for 2nd place. Keeping that third spot was Joshua Alfaro. First, Second and third…stayed 1, 2 and 3 from the qualifies to the finish of the “A” Main for 4wd Modified Buggy with Felix Law, Gavin Butera and Corey Record finishing in that very order. Then, the Grand Finally, with a crowd watching all the way down the wall. The Pro 4 Modified SCT show was about to begin. Nobody had a clue what would really happen, and then… they were off! When all was done and said, it was Daniel Paz, Jeff Kranz and Jeff record in that order, surviving and thriving by the end of Race 2. Some were happy and some were not, but that’s racing and it was awesome.
