Riverdale 1x06
I am still doing my re-watch although due to the resumption of tennis + beautiful weather, my progress has slowed somewhat. but we have reached the era of Bughead make-outs and it is a glorious era.
-YOU KNOW this episode was gonna be good because we get a breakfast scene with Betty, Jughead and Alice in the first five minutes. AMAZING. I want all the Betty, Jughead and Alice breakfast scenes always. @thatiranianphantom where are you.
-There is a moment during the breakfast scene where Betty gives Jughead a Look with a raised eyebrow & he understands the look perfectly and that is TRUE OTP content. They were just meant for each other, guys.
-lol SLEUTHSTER.
-There is a cute scene where Bughead are discussing Polly over lunch and Archie comes to join them. He earnestly asks if he can help and Jughead turns him down so quickly but in the nicest way possible, it is good diplomacy. Jughead correctly assess the danger of involving Archie in a scheme involving subterfuge TBH.
-I have a pretty distinct recollection of when I first watched this episode and I remember being very "???" at the concept that the Coopers would send their pregnant daughter to a convent to, like, hide the ~shame of it all. And thinking: "WHAT IS THIS SHOW? IT IS WEIRD." I was so young. I knew so little as to what would come.
-We know now that the convent was less because she was knocked up and more because she was knocked up with incest babies lmao but that comes later. -Other things happen besides Bughead and Cooper family drama.....? Something about Andrews construction and Hiram I guess?? Archie wants to perform his music in the Variety show but does not want to do so alone? Zzzzz.
-There is an awkward dinner scene among the Lodges, the Andrews, and the McCoys where Archie learns Josie's full name is "Josephine" and he is hilariously surprised by this. Omg Archie. Bless this dumb boy. -"Hey there, Juliet."
-What was it like to be part of fandom and watch this episode? It must have been NUTS. I wish I could go back and time and be there with you all.
-What is left to say about the first kiss that has not been said? IT IS SO PRETTY and Cole and Lili do it so WELL. I love how you can see Jughead summon his courage before he goes for it. And Betty's "what.... what?" is the perfect mix of genuine confusion and also anticipation. And the way they bask in the glow of it afterwards. Like that kiss just sent sparks flying through both of them and they need a moment to process it. I LOVE IT. IT LOVE IT SO MUCH.
-"I was born alone, I'll die alone, I'll sing alone." A CLASSIC.
