Better Left Unspoken
A/N: This is just a cute fluffy oneshot I managed to come up with, been super busy lately and things I've written for your requests haven't been the best. So here is this in the meantime before I improve the rest!
C/W: Re4 Leon x reader, roommates, sort of grumpy x sunshine? fluff, domestic fluff, cuteness and sweetness, unspoken feelings, Leon can't tell you how he feels
W/C: 2k
Music echoes around the apartment, filling the walls with the tunes of your favourite playlist. Your feet dance around the room, eyes closed as your body moves with the beat, living in your own little world.
Your roommate is still at work, granting you plenty of time to enjoy the empty shared space. Though he's not too much of a bother anyway, he's super friendly, helpful with cleaning and cooking, and lets you do whatever you want without judging or complaining. You surprisingly feel so comfortable around him, like he's someone you've known for ages.
He often goes away for days on end for his job, you don't know exactly what he does, and given the state in which he returns in, you don't think you really want to know. Anytime he has come home looking like he's been dragged through the depth of hell and back, covered in muck, blood and cuts, you waste no time to clean him up. You help him into the shower, disinfect his wounds, throw away the mess of his ruined clothes, and patch him up with your bandages.
You've caught him watching you whilst doing this a few times, almost as if he is admiring you. But you think nothing of it, he's been away for a while, he's exhausted and in pain. But even on regular days, normal moments where you're simply completing a chore, you can feel the burn of his gaze searing through your skin. If it were anyone else, you'd probably feel unsettled, but instead your stomach fills with butterflies.
You're so oblivious to your current surroundings, music blasting as you sing your heart out, using a makeshift microphone out of your hairbrush, that you didn't hear the front door open, nor did you notice the thud of a heavy bag falling onto the floor.
Leon stands in the living room, in both shock and awe as he watches you in so much joy with an amused smile on his face. He'd thought coming back home after a mission to loud music and his roommate acting as if she was performing a concert for...someone, would irritate him. But it's quite the opposite.
His eyes track down your frame, noticing how you're wearing his hoodie, entirely oversized, the sleeves sagging on your arms and the length covering your bare thighs. Though when your arms reach up, he gets a peek of the pretty pink boyshorts being the only piece of fabric covering you. His heart thuds in his chest, harshly swallowing back all the feelings blooming in his chest.
He doesn't really know how to approach this, knowing that if he were to tap your shoulder you'd most likely scream in fear, and he doesn't want to scare you. But he just cannot take his eyes off of you, it's like you've caught him in a trance, hypnotising him with the movement of your hips and the sound of your voice singing along so freely.
He decides not to bother you, to let you enjoy yourself so peacefully for a little longer as he heads to the kitchen. He pours himself a drink, still watching you over the rim of the glass as you waltz around the living room.
Leon shrugs off his jacket, leaving him in his tight, dark-blue work shirt with a few new scars covering his arms, though it isn't as bad as what he normally returns with, he got lucky during this mission, and it seems like he's gotten lucky with his roommate, something he thinks quite often.
It's only until you spin around, eyes opening and landing on Leon casually leaning against the countertop, his gaze fixed on you with a small smirk that you squeal in shock. "Leon!" You exclaim, running over to him and throwing your arms around his neck, forcing him into a hug. He huffs out a laugh, bringing his arms around your frame, inhaling your sweet scent that reminds him he's home.
He shouldn't feel like this over his roommate, you both agreed to catching no feelings to make sure this arrangement doesn't get messy. But, can you blame him? You're like the sun, putting him at ease, warming him up and making him smile so effortlessly with your light.
"When did you get home?" You ask, pulling away and dropping your arms back to your sides. You soon realise you're only wearing his hoodie, but you don't really care. You've walked around in just a baggy t-shirt a few times before, the benefits of being so comfortable and feeling safe around someone.
"Uhh.." He looks up at the ceiling, "About 10 minutes ago."
"What? Why didn't you say anything?" You lightly smack his chest, feeling the tight muscle burning through the fabric between your hand and his skin for just a brief moment.
He shakes his head with a small smile, "Didn't wanna disturb you, you looked like you were having fun."
"Well now it's even more fun!" You wink at him, and he already knows what you're planning.
You step back, playfully beckoning a finger from him to follow you. He stands still for a while with a smirk as you begin to dance again, pointing your fingers in his direction. "Come onnnn, let loose for a bit." You draw your words out before twirling around, your hair flowing around your frame.
"I need to shower and freshen up." Leon states, his arms folded against his chest, trying his best to stand his ground.
"You can do that after! Just a few minutes, pleaseeee? It'll help you relax, shake off some of that tension from work." You plead, stopping your movement with a fake frown.
It's impossible for Leon to say no to you, he has a soft spot only for you. You're his weakness, but he can't tell you that. He can't tell you much of what he feels for you.
He lets out a dramatic sigh, throwing his head back as his feet heavily drag towards you, your face lighting up with a grin as you realise you got your way with him once again. You grab his hands, encouraging him to try to dance with you, you try your best not to laugh at how stiff he is. His attempts at dancing include some movement of his arms and a thin, unimpressed smile painted on his face.
"You're like a robot, Le. Actually no, I think a robot would be a better dancer than you." You finally let out a giggle.
"Good thing my job role doesn't involve dancing then." He blatantly replies.
You lift up his arm, high enough for you to spin yourself in his grip, returning back to his face as his eyes soften towards you. You continue to move his arms in a push and pull method, jumping around enthusiastically to try and get him to do something other than stand still.
After a few more moments, he finally cracks and joins in with a bit more effort than before. His arms lose the previous tension, his feet actually step around as he dances with you. You don't care how cringe he may look right now, you're just glad your attempt in distracting him and hopefully making him feel a bit better has worked.
What you don't know is how much your attempt has actually left a mark on him. His heart is full of emotion, emotions which he isn't used to feeling, looking down at how joyful you are that he's dancing so terribly with you. He's never smiled so much in his life before living with you, it's a nice contrast to the darkness and violence he's surrounded with in his everyday work life.
And although the agreement between you two prevents Leon from ever telling you how he feels, he can't help but fear that even if he were to tell you, that the part of his life that he keeps separate from his time with you would somehow corrupt you into feeling and becoming like him. He could never be the reason your brightness dims, it would destroy him.
The guilt eats him alive every night he tries to sleep, with other thoughts of the people he has lost on missions, and vivid images of the nightmarish scenes engraved into his mind. As much as he has tried to get rid of these feelings, there's always something you do that draws them back out, ten times stronger than before.
Whether that has been helping him through a nightmare, when you've heard noises from his room and check on him to see him tossing and turning in his bed, you wait at his side, holding his hand until they pass or until he wakes up. Or even offering to make him his comfort meal when you see he's having a bad day.
"I'm gonna clean up now." Leon announces, dropping his hands down from yours, the loss of warmth from your contact sends shivers throughout his body.
"Fine, can we order some food tonight? We can watch a movie or something, I saw a trailer for this new film that came out not long ago. It looks really good." You ramble on.
Leon smiles at you, nodding his head. "Of course."
You beam with excitement, searching for your phone and reading through menus of nearby takeout restaurants for something the both of you would like as Leon showers. You hear the water abruptly stop running after a while, the bathroom door opening with steam seeping out.
You're already all comfy on the couch, a fluffy blanket thrown over yourself, leaning into the pillows with your knees tucked into your chest. The film you have chosen is waiting on pause. You turn your head around to see Leon walking over to the kitchen, retrieving two glasses and pouring your favorite drink into both.
Your eyes drop down to his small black shirt straining against his chest and arms, his baggy grey sweatpants hanging loosely at his waist. You absolutely love seeing him look so comfortable like this.
He strolls over to the couch, handing you the drink without saying anything before he sits down beside you, slouching deep into the couch, his legs parting slightly with a sigh.
"What did you order?" He asks.
"Chinese." You cheekily grin, knowing it's one of Leon's all time favourite meals.
A smile pulls at the corner of his lips "You know me so well." He tilts his head at you before pointing his eyes toward the TV, signalling for you to press play. You shift in your seat angling yourself so you're not going to feel all achey 20 minutes into the film and so that you can keep an eye on the front door, and totally not so you can see Leon better.
Throughout the movie, Leon can't help but feel a tingling ache for you, wishing he could somehow have you cuddle into him and hold you close. But he knows he can't, he keeps quiet, sticking to his side of the couch.
After your food arrives and you devour your meal, the rest of the film is nearly forgotten. You find yourself falling into a food coma, tired from all the dancing earlier today. Your head lazily falls onto one of Leon's thighs, a content sigh escaping your lips as you snuggle into the fabric, your arm stretching over his lap.
Leon freezes for a second, not knowing what to do, he gently rests a hand on your shoulder, pulling the blanket over your body. His eyes begin to feel heavy, mirroring your own exhaustion. He rests his head back onto the cushion behind him, letting himself be taken by whatever sleep he can get.
The smile on his face fails to disappear for a while, the feeling of you leaning onto his body fills him up with so much warmth, so many thoughts and feelings swimming around his brain. He's never felt so happy, so safe and wanted around someone before. And it pains him to not tell you.
A/N: This idea has been sat as a draft for ages but it’s just so cute, love the grumpy x sunshine trope for Leon

imagining a scenario where leon notices ( black ) reader while at a bar ( or any kind of setting really ) and it’s sort of a love at first sight kind of thing. i lowkey want some type of obsessive behavior involved. ( i have issues )
he thinks of her often after the first sighting. he does go up and talk to her so technically it would be first encounter.
the thoughts escalate and he feels the undying need to see her again. speak to her. be around her. breathe her in lolz. reader can smell like…coconut, fruit musk, or like a vanilla coconut kinda scent. ( self indulgent LOL )
reader is confident, but awkward. she picks up on things quickly and is very adaptive. hmm. i’d also say that reader can have an insane backstory that leon doesn’t know about to make it even more interesting!
reader can have any kind of hairstyle you’d like. ( preferably black hairstyles. just cause it would be nice to read for a change. :-] ) ( locs would be tuff ) ( self indulgent again 🏃🏽♀️)
it can be mutual interest off rip with lots of yearning or a bit of unrequited feelings and lots of yearning still hehe. i love yearning bro. I love passion. i love obsession. i love intensity. ( if done the right way )
oh you can make this story freak nasty if you want. it’s all rated r over here. omg make him an eater please. like him craving it all the time would be so peak.
i am a pervert.
i know i haven’t really provided much to work with but yeah 😭
i think the best versions of leon for this would be re4 remake~ but honestly, any other leon is fine too!
if any one wants to dive more into this tag me :-D ( if you’d like! )
American wedding but the "Mrs.Kennedy" line is for Leon, because every blonde man is a woman to me.
Tried out RE4. It was fun, here's a quick sketch of my favs 😙
Ignore how it’s been like forever since I’ve posted art on here

Burnt Sienna
Leon Kennedy
sfw
You had found him exactly where you expected.
Leon was leaning against the weathered fence outside the barn, one boot propped against the bottom rail as he looked out across the paddock. The late afternoon sun illuminated the ranch in warm amber, turning the earth beneath your boots into a rich burnt sienna that seemed to glow beneath the dust. His hair caught the light in uneven strands of gold, and for a brief moment he looked entirely out of place. Federal agent, government-funded car, years spent fighting monsters... and somehow he'd ended up on your family's ranch. It was your idea, really. A fun weekend with the horses, you had described.
He turned as he heard the barn door slide open. "I found something," he announced.
You raised an eyebrow. "Uh oh,” you tease.
With a grin, he reached behind his back and produced an old black cowboy hat. The leather had darkened with age where countless hands had gripped the brim, and its edges were softened by years beneath the relentless summer sun.
"I think it suits me."
You stared at him. "Oh, absolutely."
"What?" He defends, picking up the sarcasm in your voice.
"Take it off."
Instead of listening, Leon settled it onto his head with exaggerated confidence, adjusting the brim before looking back at you. "Well?"
You can’t help but chuckle when you realise it suits him quite well. The faded denim, worn boots and rolled-up sleeves on his blue plaid flannel already made him look more at home than he'd earned the right to. Against the warm browns of the barn and the rust-coloured earth, the hat somehow completed the picture.
You folded your arms. "...That's annoying."
His smile widened. "I look good?"
"I was going to laugh at you."
"And?"
"And now I can't." Leon chuckled, pleased with himself in a way that made you roll your eyes. You stepped forward, reaching to pull the hat off his head, but he leaned back just enough to keep it out of your reach.
"You've been here for all of fifteen minutes," you said. "You've gotta earn the role, cowboy."
"No," he admitted. "But I'm willing to fake it."
"You couldn't even tell a saddle blanket from a feed bag."
"I'll learn."
The confidence in his voice made you laugh. "You say that now."
-
A little while later, that confidence had noticeably diminished.
Leon sat atop your chestnut gelding, Buck, with far more concentration than you'd ever seen him use during one of your dates. His posture wasn't terrible, but every muscle in his body seemed to be working overtime. His hands held the reins carefully, almost cautiously, and his eyes flicked between you and the horse as though waiting for one of you to reveal the trick.
"You can relax," you called, walking alongside him. Fine dust puffed beneath your boots with every step, catching the sunlight like glitter before settling back onto the arena floor. "I am relaxed."
You looked up. "Leon."
"What?"
"Your shoulders are practically touching your ears." He paused, then let out a quiet sigh before consciously lowering them. "Better?"
"Much."
Buck continued at a slow walk around the arena, his chestnut coat gleaming with copper undertones whenever the sun slipped between the rafters. You reached up, gently adjusting the position of Leon's hands on the reins.
"Don't grip so tightly."
"I don't want to give him the wrong signal."
"You already are." His brow furrowed. "You keep telling him you're nervous."
Leon glanced down at the horse beneath him. "...He knows?" You smiled.
"He knows everything you're feeling."
The thought seemed to genuinely surprise him. You rested a hand against Buck’s warm shoulder as you continued walking beside them. "You can't force a horse to trust you. They're prey animals. They don't care how strong you are, or how brave you think you are. If you're tense, they'll feel it. If you're calm, they'll relax." Leon was quiet for a moment, taking that in.
"So it's not about controlling him?"
"No."
"It's about… trust." You can practically see the gears spinning in his head as he figures it out. Not easy for a man who’s life revolves around only depending on himself.
"Exactly."
He loosened his grip almost imperceptibly, taking a slow breath as he settled deeper into the saddle. Almost immediately, Buck lowered his head and his stride became longer, smoother. "There," you said softly. Leon blinked. "What changed?"
"You did." He looked genuinely puzzled.
"I barely moved."
"You stopped trying to control him. Trust him, and he will trust you.”
His gaze drifted toward the horse's ears before returning to you. "...Huh."
You couldn't help smiling. "See? You're getting it." He looked down at you with that familiar crooked grin you'd grown embarrassingly fond of. "I've got a pretty good teacher." Heat crept into your face despite yourself. "I'll accept that compliment."
Buck came to an easy halt beside you. Beyond the arena, the fields rolled endlessly beneath a sky beginning to soften into honeyed gold, the wooden fences throwing long shadows across the umber earth.
Before you could say anything else, Leon reached up and removed the cowboy hat from his own head. "What are you doing?"
He didn't answer immediately. Instead, he leaned down just enough to settle the hat gently onto your head. The brim dipped over your eyes, and you laughed as you pushed it back into place. "There," he murmured. "It looks better on you."
You looked up at him. "I thought you liked it."
"I do."
"So why give it to me?"
His blue eyes met yours, warm and impossibly sincere. "Because I like seeing you smile more." For a second, neither of you moved.
The horses shifted lazily beside you, swishing their tails in the cooling afternoon air. Somewhere beyond the arena, a breeze stirred through the trees, carrying the scent of hay, leather and sun-warmed timber. It smelled like summers that seemed endless.
You stepped closer, resting your hand lightly against his knee where it hung beside the saddle. "You know," you said quietly, "you're doing surprisingly well." He perks up. “At riding?”
"At trusting." Something in his expression softened. "I think… I’ve got a good reason to."
Before you could find the words to answer, he leaned down just enough to steal a gentle kiss. It was brief, warm, and just a little awkward given that he was still sitting on a saddle. Buck turns his ears, like he’s listening to your conversation. When he pulled away, you smiled.
“I think the cowboy hat might be working.” Leon laughed.
"Nah." He glanced between you, the ranch, and the horse patiently waiting beneath him. "I think it's just the company." You smile, holding the reins as he dismounts.
As you bring Buck back into the stable, Leon glances back at the horizon. As the sun slipped lower, the ranch seemed to melt into shades of amber, ochre and burnt sienna. It’s the kind of colours that lingered long after you looked away, warm enough to make even a stranger feel like he belonged.

BANG, BANG, BANG.
You hear a heavy knock at your door. Alarmed, you check the clock next to your bed; 2am.
Who the fuck could be at your door at this hour?
Grabbing the taser from the drawer in your bedside table, you crawl out of the bed and slowly walk towards the door. You hear a groan coming from the outside. Carefully, you step closer to the door and take a breath before peering in the peephole. A man with straight, blonde hair is propped up against your door. With a gasp, you throw open the door so fast he almost falls through.
“Damn, y/n” leon mumbles as he stumbles in your apartment. He grunts as he makes his way to the living room and slumps onto the couch. He winces as he adjusts himself.
“Leon, what are you doing? What happened? Are you-?” the questions start pouring out of you, and then you glance down at his stomach. There a large gash in his side, and quite a lot of blood covering the fabric he’s clinging to his wound.
“Y/n, a little less questions if you don’t mind right now.” he winces again after taking the fabric off and glancing down at the gash. His eyes wandered down to your hands by your side, and he lets out a laugh. "A taser? Good thinking." Noticing that you are still clutching the taser, you place it down on the side table and can feel your face turn warm. "Yeah, whatever," you retort.
Moving forward to him, you begin to analyze the wound. It’s about one inch wide and looks to be around two inches deep. Looking up at him, you meet his eyes. A surge of urgency courses through you; he's not letting himself show just how much pain he is in.
Rushing towards the kitchen, you go straight for the cabinet full of medical supplies. You're currently four years into your medical residency on the way to becoming a doctor. Healing has been your whole life; you loved taking care of people. However, seeing Leon stumble into your apartment at 2am with an open wound from who knows what sends pain through your body. Grabbing stuff for stitches, some disinfectant, and ointment, you run back to Leon.
"Leon, what happened?" you ask while you motion for him to quickly take off his shirt so you can start working. Quickly taking his navy blue shirt off, he throws it to the floor and winces in pain at the movement. Sitting beside him, you begin to disinfect the wound to make sure there would not be an infection.
You could feel his icy-blue eyes boring into you as you work away. In other circumstances, this would have completely shot your nervous system.
"Mission with Carlos," he sighed under his breath. "One of the bastards happened to nick me when I was holding onto what I thought was the last one. Carlos managed to take down that one while I took out the one I already had my hands wrapped around. It's really not that big of a deal."
You stare back up at him as you prepare the needle for stitching in shock.
"Not a big deal?" you blurt out. "Leon, this wound could have taken YOU out."
Holding your gaze, a smirk starts to play across his lips.
"Well, it's a good thing I showed up on your doorstep then, right?". Feeling your face grow warm once again at his words, you look back down and begin stitching up the cut. You feel him draw a quick breath at the feeling. "Sorry, this is going to feel a little uncomfortable," you quietly say as you work away. A quiet moment passes.
"You need to be more careful, Leon. This could have been a lot worse than what it is. What if I wasn't here?" you ask. You hear him chuckle at this statement. "Where else would you be, y/n?" he responds while you can still feel his eyes burning a hole into you as he watches you work.
"Nowhere, I'm just saying..." you mumble. Since being in your residency, it's hard to have a life outside of working and studying. You don't do much; most of the time when you aren't working, you find yourself sitting in front of the TV, drinking a glass of wine, and eating cold takeout. When you are a doctor, it becomes your life practically. Sometimes, you don't even remember what you are like outside of doing your work.
Finishing up the stitching, you lightly rub some anti-biotic ointment on them.
"Okay, everything is put back together." you say as you gather your supplies to put back in the cabinet. A large hand falls over yours, which makes you halt what you're doing. Slowly, you lift your eyes to his face.
"Y/n" he says your name as if it's the most perfect word, dripping with a softness in his voice. "Thank you for helping me. I know it's late, but I didn't really know where to go. So, thanks for opening the door."
You flash him a soft smile. "Of course. You know I am here, even at the dead hours of the morning." you laugh.
A smile forms across his lips at the sound of your laugh. Hearing your laugh has been the best thing he's heard in a while. Getting up from the couch, you go to put the supplies back. Coming back to the living room, you can't help but notice that his shirt is still off and lying on the floor. Tearing your eyes from him, you go and plop yourself down next to him.
"How are you feeling?" you ask as you watch him investigate the stitched-up wound. He turns to face you, and the breath in your lungs is sucked right out of you. He is the most perfect person you have ever seen, even all beaten up and wounded.
"Better," he says softly as he stares back into your eyes, "Better now."
Lifting his hand up to your face, he places his palm onto your cheek. Your face fits perfectly into the mold of his hand, and you somewhat let yourself relax into his hand while closing your eyes. Ever since you can remember, you have always had the biggest crush on Leon. When your father introduced you to him, you could feel a shot of electricity go through you at every sight of him.
There had always been something between the two of you that drew you both towards each other.
The last time he touched you like this was when you thought it would be the last time you saw him.
When he told you that nothing could ever be.
You could feel your heart start to break all over again at the recollection of the memory.
"Leon," you sighed while your eyes were still closed. "What are you doing?...". His thumb starts to lightly rub your cheekbone. Opening your eyes, you're met with his.
"When I left for the mission in Spain, I knew there was a possibility of me not coming back." he says quietly. "I couldn't leave you with the pain if I never came back."
Taking his hand off your face, you abruptly stand from the couch. You feel the frustration start to take over.
"Why did you leave me like that? Why would you act as if there was never anything between us?" You start letting the words tumble out of you at a quick pace. "It drove me crazy; it made me feel crazy! It made me feel like what I thought I felt between us was something I made up. That I wasn't good enough. That-" you're stopped from continuing your rant when his hand lands on your mouth. Your tear-filled eyes lock onto his.
"You aren't crazy, y/n" Leon says with his hand still covering your mouth. "You think I said that because of all those things?" he searches your eyes for an answer.
"I said what I said before leaving because I couldn't bear the thought of your pain at losing me. It was a high-stakes mission with no guarantees of what could happen. The thought of you being in pain at the possibility of losing me was more unbearable than anything I faced while over there." he slowly takes his hand away from your mouth.
"You were with me the entire time I was there. You are the reason I kept going-" he says as he pulls out a small sliver of paper from his pocket. Unfolding it, he places it into your hand. Glancing down, you read the piece of crumbled-up paper.
"Good luck!" is written in your handwriting.
"Do you remember this?" he asks while cupping both hands around your face to make you face him. "You left that in my notes one day before a small mission I had to go on."
"You...you kept this?" you respond quietly. You can feel a tear start to roll down your face.
"Of course I kept it..." Leon says while brushing his thumb against the tear. "You mean everything to me." You both stare at each other as he closes the space between the two of you with his body.
You feel the guard you have been holding up for the past year break down instantly. Slowly, he leans his face more into yours, only centimeters away.
"I love you, y/n." you take in the smell of him, and it covers you in a blanket of comfort. "Nothing can keep me away from you. You are good enough; you are everything I have ever wanted." he lightly places his forehead on yours.
After a moment, you let your lips brush against his.
"I love you too, Leon." you speak into his mouth. Moving his arms, he wraps you into his embrace, and you clash your lips onto his.
After all this time, you can finally have what you both have wanted for so long.
