"Can't You See?" - Harry Styles
It is curious how when an artist wants to support a cause, from charity to something as controversial as political views (for instance), the message is grabbed at once by the general audience: clothing, lyrics, colors used in the background or just a tiny lace on their jacket’s lapel, everything is valid. However, when it comes down to sexuality, which also has its own channels & symbols of speech, some go blank.
The Coachella performance has of course opened many discussions. How the Hets keep seeing the het in Harry, despite what I consider to be one of his most significant performances, is worth mentioning.
Why do I consider it to be a key show? Without going into the details, it was Harry’s House presentation and in addition to his performing essence, he added clear connotations pointing to specific grounds he stands on that can mark this period.
There is the public daily narrative doing its effective work and conveniently positioning Harry in that (ironically) fine line in which he could go on stage, scream “I am gay” and while some will immediately comprehend, for others the shadow of the stunt won’t let them see further. This convenient spot is just a sad sign of how toxic this industry remains to date.
I cannot blame the general audience for a lack of opinion, I cannot blame them for eating the content, either if they are random or casual fans or if they like a couple of songs or after looking into a magazine twice, because that’s the content’s purpose. I like and enjoy many other’ artists' works and certainly, I don’t invest nor have the intention, of knowing them to the same depth I know H&L and I feel ok with it.
However, I cannot believe there are people listening to his songs in a loop, following his steps for years, attending his shows, acknowledging something as evident as his tattoos and having literally mental gaps when it comes to very specific moments that keep repeating over time. How are all these explained?
“Larrybaiting” I am reading around lately… but friends, THIS is precisely a switch we have never seen before. It means nothing but that these people can’t deny that there has been an evident claim, a reaffirmation made by Harry himself about who he is. Furthermore, these have been linked to Louis on plenty of occasions.
So, I understand not having an opinion or not even caring about his sexuality, thus in the end it should be his own business, but if you mind looking for more than 2 mins at least open your eyes.
