hi!! idk if this is a dumb question, but i was wondering where u find all these amazing books.. u always recommend or feature such interesting books on here. blogs like yours have def helped me dive out of my comfort zone when it comes to reading!

not a dumb question at all !! it's just a matter of being confident in your own taste, knowing and reading what you like and dislike without letting it hinder you from seeking out something entirely new ! i started my reading journey like anyone online, reading popular books and i liked some a lot, others didn't stick and honestly that helps u learn what u like. I'm glad u have sources that are helping u find new stuff and my no 1 advice is find people who from your friend circle online or irl who read for personal pleasure because a lot of recs online are for given through the point of content creation + gaining interaction so might not always be genuine :/

i've made such a nice circle of friends and i love seeing what they're reading like a quarter of my tbr is just seeing what they are reading/ want to read and seeing that it fits my style too ! also online i get recs from lithub mostly, very rarely other sites; also from other readings like if I'm reading an article / watching a movie, i sometimes find connected readings not On the topic but similar genre or subject etc. and the rest is idk just scrolling online i have like 900 books on my tbr which is amazing for someone who does not easily take recs from people 😭

I want to organise my bookshelves and maybe donate some books to my favourite secondhand bookshop. I noticed that my reading taste has changed over the years. I was that teenager who almost read all the YA book she could get her hands on. I grew up with Shadowhunters, the hunger games and Throne of Glass. I haven't touched a Sarah J. Maas book in years and I just feel like we grown apart. I am now more interested in cozy fantasy, stories set in regency England or inspired by studio Ghibli movies, like the maid and the crocodile.

I was determined not to do any proper stats for my reading this year because I've been letting the numbers get to me. All I've kept to track my reading is my journal. However, I was chatting with a bookish friend about her stats and it got me slightly curious about what have been my main genres this year so far. Astoundingly my three main genres are approximately:

Classics (49%)

Fantasy (26%)

Nonfiction (19%)

Now having classics and fantasy being my main genres is hardly surprising, however, I would expect them to be the other way around. It should also be noted that most of the fantasy I've read this year is not modern, the majority is old school classic fantasy (some even predates Tolkien!)

Yet the biggest surprise is the nonfiction! I rarely reach for nonfiction? But for some baffling reason I've read A LOT of it? To put it into perspective throughout ALL of last year I read 3 nonfiction books for fun. This year I've read 7 books and 54 articles/essays? I DIDN'T EVEN INCLUDE THE ARTICLES IN MY STATS! It's bizarre - fun though!

So, now I'm trying to work out why my reading has been so different - I have a few ideas but either way I'm not complaining. This year (so far) has been the best reading year in a while, I've felt so much happier with my reading and it's been much more fulfilling. Guess I'll keep going in this direction for the foreseeable future!
