I finally got around to setting up a picture for the books I got from the Times Colonist Book Sale in Victoria. It’s unbelievably big and I didn’t even scratch the surface of all the books that were there!! I had an amazing Dickens find which has a story I might save for its own sole post. And how sweet is this edition of Little Women? I just had to have it. Rainbow Valley might seem like a funny choice by itself, but I have 1-6 of that particular set of Anne books, and I’d really like to finish it! I also managed to feed my Hamiltonian obsession. Not pictured is a gem I found that is a vintage biography of Marie Curie written by her daughter. I bought for a dear friend who is a chemist herself and I never thought to take a picture of it. (I finished this awhile ago but have just gotten around to posting it!) After loving the Lightkeepers by Abby Geni so much I wanted to read her other novel—the Wildlands. I listened to the first one as an audiobook when I was sick once. I had found her style of writing to be extremely soothing, so I thought it would be a good choice to listen to her other when I was sick again. Interestingly it was very different. The elements that I had so loved in the Lightkeepers were not in the Wildlands, but that didn’t stop me from loving this book! How can you even begin to describe a book as powerful as this? One that takes you step by step from the slave trade of the 1700s all the way through to the turn of the millennium. It focused on the descendants of two sisters who never knew each other. One became married to a British slave trader, and the other sold into slavery. Each chapter is a vignette of a different generation, telling the shaping of both Africa and America through their eyes. I learnt a few things rereading Anne of Green Gables: 1. I have bad buddy reading etiquette That’s it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Funny enough, for raving to everyone how this is my favourite series, I’ve actually only read it once. This was my very first reread (of book one). Part of me was worried that it wasn’t going to be as good as I remembered. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That part was wrong. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think I may have enjoyed it even more. Or maybe just the same. I fell completely in love with it the first time around. New books! 🧡😻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve been so looking forward to getting my hands on The Traveling Cat Chronicles! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For Les Miserables, I researched which translation would suit me best, and ended up deciding on the Norman Denny translation—we’ll see how that goes! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This book about Eliza Hamilton was a complete impulse buy lol.
