Recently I visited a bead store in an upscale Bay Area neighborhood. While there I glanced at their Services menu and was convinced that I couldn’t be seeing knotted stringing at $1.50 Per Knot. Don’t they mean per Inch? I asked. Nope. $1.50 per knot. So I sat with that till I got back to Ukiah, where my stringing stuff lives. Today I made this. These pearls are roughly 3mm across and drilled in odd ways because they are irregular shapes. I also have a sick headache and still jet-lagged from the time change. This has 137 knots. I did it in 45 minutes. Including putting the pearls on the needle. So this store would have charged you $205.50 to string this. And probably add a surcharge because tiny pearls. We are talking charging $275.00 An Hour. I charge by the inch. As much as I’d like to be making $275.00 an hour. Or even a day.
