Getting laidoff means not even blogging sometimes
So, the last post, Metal Friday... that day didn't go so great, but was still a fun time. First off, the person I went with could not get in because the show was actually SOLD OUT. Not a huge venue by any means, but pretty impressive. Metal has made a full comeback by now, if it hadn't already. I remember at one point in the late 90s and the early aughts metal was pretty much not that cool to listen to, for whatever reason.
Part of it for me was the burgeoning electronic music and dj/hiphop genres, with tons of innovative new acts. Also, metal becoming very "nu-metal"-ish. That did not help the case. While I nearly stopped listening (well, not really, I'd still listen to some of my old favorites from time to time, of course), I did eventually start going further back into metal's history.
Or in the case of Kyuss, and tons of even more obscured hard rock/heavy metal bands who were liking few things better than to give a nod to the 70's, there was a discovery period that pretty much eventually made me realize hard rock and heavy metal are not genres to be overlooked. They often embody what is truly the American dream: be yourself as long as you don't step on other people's toes. Or, the Golden Rule.
Anyway, before I get into a big diatribe about America, I just want to recommend again 'Winnebago Man', a documentary about this guy. The documentary is on Netflix. I have been catching up on some movies on the home theater here. Someone mentioned the term "funemployment" last night, and I suppose that's a pretty apt label, even though it's rather silly sounding.
There is always the spectre of not knowing where you'll be working, or how things will "work" out. It's nice to have many distractions from that. But to get back to Metal Friday's roughness, I got really drunk and moshed. Did not break anything or rupture any organs, but I'm probably too old for that, got sore and a little beat up. But then again, isn't that just a good workout (albeit, a drunk one)?
So to start off this week, I spent yesterday going through some emails that were piling up, and talking on the phone with my resume assistance person for the first time. Going to speak again today at 4 and get registered on their site, which will help me with things like an extensive job database, and rework my old resume. Sort of looking forward to getting the process going.
