Favorite Male Character: Eugene. I have a few problems with the way the TV show has sort of relegated him to comic relief in some episodes, but overall I love his character. When he’s allowed to shine, he really shines. Favorite Female Character: Rapunzel, duh!!! Of course I’m going to be biased towards my muse, as getting into her head allows me to understand her better. But I always found Rapunzel to be an engaging and compelling character. She’s been one of my favorite princesses since the movie came out. Least Favorite Character: …..probably Varian haha. (sorry!) I don’t hate him, and I love writing with Varian rpers, but in the show I just don’t really relate to him much. His shift from dorky side character to main villain was a bit abrupt and oddly paced, which didn’t help either. I also had a slight issue with a few (minority!!) members of his fanbase placing him on a pedestal at the expense of the other characters. Not cool.
Favorite Ship: Rapunzel and Eugene, which is sort of a default ship for Tangled lol. I ship Rapunzel with several other characters, but most are crossovers. So right now New Dream is definitely the OTP. Plus, I always liked them. The movie handled their relationship very naturally and I’m beyond impressed with the show’s depiction of it. Drama’s allowed to happen without the relationship deteriorating into unhealthy territory. Absolutely fantastic. Favorite Friendship: Raps and Cass. Female friendships are just really important, and theirs is a lot of fun to watch. I love watching them develop. They have such realistic conflicts too, and in fact, the one in “Under Raps” is almost identical to a conflict I had with my own best friend when we were young. So I love watching that unfold. It’s just a very solid portrayal of a female friendship. Favorite Quote: “The world is dark, and selfish, and cruel. If it find even the slightest ray of sunshine, it destroys it.” She’s talking about Rapunzel and herself, y’all. It’s meta as hell. Worst Character Death (if any): Uh…..does Pascal’s fake-out “death” in Queen for a Day count??? I know he didn’t really die, but for a hot second I really thought Disney was gonna do it. o.O If not, then I’ll go with Mother Gothel, because Rapunzel watching a woman she’d thought of as her mother rapidly aging and falling to her death was…kind of horrifying and did not have me cheering like some Disney villain deaths. Rapunzel gets no closure with that relationship. This made me so happy you have no idea Moment: At the end of season one, when Rapunzel is finally able to leave the Kingdom. With the lanterns and the rocks pointing her onwards and Frederic finally realizing he’d been doing a bad. Beautiful scene and so important for her. Also “See the Light.” Because frankly that’s one of the most beautiful pieces of animation Disney has ever created.
Saddest Moment: When the tower fell in “Quest for Varian.” It felt like a character had died. Rapunzel’s reaction was heartbreaking, especially since she’d inadvertently done it herself. She’d set herself free from that place, but it had also been her home. Plus, it was such an iconic location and they really Did That. Favorite Location: Mmm……this one’s harder to answer right now, because they haven’t been too many places yet. The tower is so iconic to the movie so I’m kind of fond of it. But I guess I’d have to say the main city in Corona? Not so much for the series, but because of the “Kingdom Dance” sequence in the movie, which I adore.
