Inner Peace
(( What I was listening to while writing this: Eternal Blossom by karasu. ))
"AGAIN!"
The harsh voice rang out across the gardens, bouncing off the near low walls and rippling the lilies upon the brook. It belonged to a war-aged Pandaren man whom stood upon a short stage. He performed the sweeping kick again, nearly identical to the last one, and landed perfectly to watch his students do the same.
Among them, Kav wasn't the worst. Sweat gently beaded on her forehead and collected in her headband. Her shoulders, arms, and legs showed the signs of hours of training in the sunlight. The muscles cried out, begging to stop, but Kav wasn't ready to give up yet.
Since the slow rebuild of Pandaria during the peace, more peoples from all over had taken up residence upon the lands. Kav didn't live there, continuing to roam as she pleased to avoid being tied down to any one place, but at some point she found herself among the students multiple times a week to practice self defense and the many forms of martial arts.
"PUNCH!"
"KICK!"
It became a sort of rhythm. The master barked and order and the students had to follow through at the right time or get called out. Kav's mistakes did not go unnoticed and more than once she felt the thwap of reed on thigh or back or shoulder or arm. It didn't matter anymore. At first she feared it - the sudden sting of punishment for repeat failure - but it was all a part of the experience now.
A year ago she would have abandoned it at the first sign of pain, at the first bloody nose, or at the first sparring session. As she stuck with these stances and practiced balance, however, the memories slowly revealed themselves and her skills began to return. The bard had been decent acrobatics and blades before, but those skills had been repressed. As they surfaced in pieces over the months of classes, Kav found herself spending sleepless nights wrecked by the thoughts of what she had been through and what she had done to survive.
"TURN!"
The students, exhausted from the steady constant of movement, turned in unison to see the distant rain clouds closing in. With an honorable bow they finished their session with slow breathing and a reminder to find peace even through the mental and physical pain.
Kav didn't hurry to gather her things as the others did. Rain could calm down her swelling muscles, her puffy eyes, and hide the tears. Instead she settled upon the creek bridge with her little voice box and sent out a message.
"Today was better than yesterday. I think I am getting better at the technique. It ... it still hurts though. Surfing really never prepared me for this. Not that I've surfed much as of late." She scoffed at herself, rolling her eyes. "I hope you and yours are doing well. I will visit again soon, or you can always visit me. I know you love this place...."
She let that drift off before before she disconnected and shook her head. It was so stupid, her thoughts. Nothing had changed, yet she was still doubting. The elf slid her communicator back into her pack, keeping the channel open just in case, as the first raindrops hit the waters below her.
"Doubt, little one, must be balanced," the master's voice sounded in Kav's mind clearly. She slowed her breathing, closed her eyes, and allowed the rain to cool her warm skin and heated mind. The tears that gently flowed down her cheeks mixed with the waters, then dropped away. The elf calmed herself as she slowly moved her body into one of the many balancing poses. She wasn't a monk and definitely didn't plan on being one, but she could at least understand this teaching. Inner turmoil did her no good, but neither did running away from it.
After a time, balanced in the rain, Kav finally straightened and made her way to the inn she was to stay at that night. The next day she went to Stormwind with a purpose and enjoyed her night drinking and laughing, held steady right where she wanted to be, before she went on yet another long adventure away from her heart's home. Valdrakken sounded good.

Not Another
The Shadow grinned as it dispersed itself, reappearing only a moment later outside of its bonds. It didn’t dare venture out of the cell though. The child made it through, though he wasn’t exactly happy about his physical form being dispersed and remade. He wiggled around in Corra’s belly, and his thoughts were so loud that perhaps even his father could hear them… It would sound like he was screaming, “Daddy, help Mommy!"
Dusk roared as he felt his child’s torment. His wife’s was already bad enough! He lunged at the bars and grabbed her as he transformed, the long barbed tentacles reaching out to grab her and drain her. Anything to stop her from doing such dangerous things! The felhound’s face slammed against the bars, teeth gnashing and bone white muzzle glinting in the dim light of the basement. He truly was a hellish creature in this form.
"Oh, Dusk,” Lin exclaimed in delight. “I had no idea how alike we were!"
The hound’s tendrils made it to Corra, and she growled as she was held onto by them. "No! Lin, help me!"
Dusk drained her as soon as he got a grip, a sudden emptiness of magic forming in her. "NOT ANOTHER! NOT ANOTHER!!"
Lin hissed, lunging toward the beast. "Damn you!” she shrieked. Bound as she was, there was little she could do: un-demonified Lin had little magical skill, and seemed to rely a lot on gestures. The demon within her was once again hampered by these limitations.
Dusk lost it for a moment. He bellowed at Lin, fel Flames pouring out of his mouth at her. Either she would get back or she would get burned. The scream that ripped from Lin’s throat was born of rage and pain.
She recoiled too late, collapsing against the floor of the cell and panting shallowly with pain.
Crystal Purification
The acolyte stepped forward and picked up the crystal from the table. In his hands, he could feel a great weight... His task was to cleanse this crystal and make it pure again so that it would draw in the negative emotions that he kept within. The members of the Auchenai did this ritual routinely, though only if they were able to purify a crystal the first time. It was their rite of passage. He closed his eyes and focused, the dark matter within the crystal moving about.
Meanwhile in the Congregation, Corra was in the process of cleansing her own crystal of the negative emotions that had befallen her after her daughter had been stolen. She looked to the other acolytes for their aid with this, as the emotions were quite powerful and dark... Dark enough to drive most to a path that was quite unsavory.
Sun quieted down and watched with interest. His brother watched the flow of magic taking place, tenuously visible to his eyes. The acolyte strained a bit, the darkness slowly beginning to clear from the crystal. It took time, and patience, but before long it was a pure lavender color. He looked upon it and sighed contentedly. "I did it..."
"That was interesting to watch. What'd you purify from it? What's it do?"
"The emotions that can lead us down a dark path... A path of terror and fear. A path of-" There was a loud crash from within the Congregation, and some screaming from the halls. "What's going on?!" He put the crystal on and rushed out. Sun frowned and followed, his brother floating along behind.
Corra remained in the center of the circle, praying over her crystal, willing the darkness that had overtaken her shadowy self to disperse. The darkness that had driven her to harm another without a second thought. As she had done so, the dark had manifested itself... Or had it? In fact, what appeared to loom over her now was a creature of the Legion's design. Perhaps the thoughts that had passed through her mind earlier, and that were in turn taken into her crystal, were enough to beckon it forth. She prayed fervently, "Please... No more of this. I swore never to harm another... Never to fall into the hands of the Legion. Disperse... Disperse, you illusion of darkness..." Her voice trembled with uncertainty.
Sun skidded to a stop as he saw the apparition, arching his brows. "That... That can't be good." He looked to his twin. "Together?" "Right!" His twin merged with him as he ran off the edge, appearing behind Corra!
The creature looked upon Corra, Sun, and his brother, and laughed. "Puny Draenei... You think you and your friends can defeat me?" Corra continued to pray, though since the dark within her crystal had manifested itself, she now prayed for Sun's protection, and her own. One of the other soulpriests had managed to gather those that fled, urging them to continue chanting and praying to lend themselves to the priestess' cause.
"Heh... Negative emotions, right?" Sun bounced from one foot to the other like a boxer. "So does that mean you're afraid of happy thoughts? Scared of cute bunnies and pretty flowers, big guy?" It looked upon him with what seemed like a arched brow before spewing "fel fire" at him. As this was all an illusion created by negativity, it would only harm him if he didn't believe he could overcome it.
He hopped aside quickly, but the flames licked his ear. "Hmm?" He stopped and looked up at the manifestation. Sun grinned. "So what do you know of Corra, eh? Think she's weak and can't control you, right?" He laughed. "Bet you don't know how nice she is. She's pretty damn caring, you know that?"
"The priestess is weak! She would sooner hand herself over to my masters than let her other child die... Than leave someone she cares for unaided." It grinned and looked upon her. "She prays so fervently, and for what? Nothing but her own demise!" With the aid of the others, Corra's body slowly... Ever so slowly... Began to regain its holy glow.
"Caring doesn't make someone weak, idiot. You know how much work it is to care about someone? Hell, when I started giving a shit about people, it was exhausting! And she does it all the time!"
The apparition chuckled and laid its hand over Corra. "Ah, but her care for others... It is weakness for she would do anything for another! Even sacrifice herself..." Corra winced, the crystal hanging from her neck dark as pitch and threatening to crack.
Sun glared at the apparition and mumbled "Together? Together." He ran over and grabbed the crystal in his hand, channeling both his own and his brother's willpower into it. "Whatever, tall dark and ugly. You're outnumbered!"
The apparition howled as it was overcome by Sun and his brother, "No! You will suffer! All of you will suffer!" It had begun to disperse! Sun's grip was tight on the crystal, but the hand he laid on Corra's shoulder was gentle. "Life is suffering. What else is new? The difference is who suffers with you! Now go away!"
Her holy glow returned, shining brighter than ever before. The shadow dispersed, and the crystal in Sun's hand became just as pure as it had ever been... Crystal clear lavender. She opened her eyes and looked to the two with a soft smile. "I... I don't know how to thank you..."
During the night, Corra had awoken in recovery. She took her last chance to hold the child that she had lost to the poison, say her last rites, and lay her to rest. Once the formalities were completed, she laid back down in the recovery room and cried herself to sleep...
Don’t mess with a scientist.
"Before we go...I don't suppose you have a spray bottle handy? Preferably with water in it?"
Niccolai blinked, then glanced around. "Oh um, yes. Right here." He grabbed the spray bottle from the shelf. Looked like a bunch of cleaning supplies.
Lin snatched it up and beamed at him. "Thank you! Now. Let's go." She flung the door open and stepped out.
Niccolai followed, shifting his goggles back over his eyes. Sun was once again tossing the cup to himself. He caught it and looked over. "Awful quiet time you two had. That bad, huh?"
Lin smoothed her hair out, making sure he saw her do it, and walked over to him. She paused in front of his cell, adjusted the nozzle on the spray bottle to be sure it would shoot in a stream, and then proceeded to spray the hell out of him.
"Agh! Hey! Lin--Stoppit!" Sun rolled away, backing up against the back wall. Niccolai watched and perked a brow.
"Every-thing-that-went-on-behind-that-door-was-for-Alli-dar!" she said through clenched teeth, spraying him anew on every syllable. When she finally stopped treating him like a disobedient cat, she glared and pointed a finger at him. "You'd better tell Niccolai exactly what he wanted to know or I'll be back, you got it?"
Sun frowned. "Fine! Jeez... Look, I'll get you tickets to the burlesque show if it'll cleanse your palate, okay?!" Niccolai finally smoothed his hair and tidied it up.
"It was just...it was an awful trick, you know that!"
"Oh, come on! Not like his cobwebbed dick was--HEY!!"
Niccolai joined in spraying, though the air became noticeably spicier with whatever he used. "This won't kill you, but it will make you very uncomfortable." It seemed to be some sort of pepper extract.
Lin gasped, though her expression was fiendishly delighted. "Doc, I would never have guessed you had it in you."
"Capicin is an interesting chemical." Sun fell over shouting obscenities and clutching his eyes. "It irritates the mucus membranes so much that the affected areas--"
"FUCK YOU FUCKING MAD CUNT FUCK"
"--are either completely useless due to pain or overproduce mucus and--"
"IT'S IN MY EYES YOU BASTARD"
"--dull the senses too much."
"AAAAAAAH!!"
"Nevermind what I said, Sun," Lin shouted over him. "If you don't answer him, I think he's more than capable of handling you."
"Oh...Oh Allidar." Lin completely ignored his instruction--as usual--and scrambled over to him. She cupped his face in her hands for only a moment before she was raining kisses upon him. "Mato noticed first," she babbled in between, "but you know me, I'm so slow to figure things out, but then Sun spoke with your face...oh, Allidar, I was so worried, I was so scared you were dead!"
Allidar sighed and listened as she talked and talked. He glanced to the bloody, shredded remains of Bladeleaf and smirked a bit. "Linthael..."
She sat back, frowning. "What? Are you hurt? Are you alright?"
"I'm chained to a cave wall. I'd like you to remedy this."
