"I shouldn't worry to much about the things I did as a teenager. Everybody makes mistakes. The fact that I managed to drop my nephew Paul, blow up the chemistry lab and accidentally break the headmasters nose in one year was just a product of sheer dumb luck. At least my best friend Ivan got a good laugh out of it."
A/n: I worked on this the last few days and I'm not 100% satisfied with it. I hope it's liked well enough, as I think I pretty much got the setting and the idea of the situation down. Hope Lissa-mun and Rose-mun like it. This one is for you.
The first thing that registered in his sleepy mind was the sound of footsteps and giggling in the otherwise silent bedroom. Humming softly he shifted in his sleep and became aware of someone spooned against him. Roza, his mind supplied as memories of last night slowly returned to him. He cracked one eye open and found a bushy mass of tangled hair in front of his face. He smiled contently and buried his nose in the soft hair as he cuddled up to his родственную душу*.
He sat up a bit as someone let out a slightly louder giggle, and he was sure it wasn’t his Roza, as she was still fast asleep. And what he found was his youngest sister, Viktoria, in his room..
Wait.
Why was she here?
She was supposed to be in Russia.
“Viktoria?” Dimitri asked, his voice still hazy from sleep. He had to rub his eyes to get rid of the fuzzy sleepy vision and he frowned when he visually confirmed that his sister was indeed in the room.
Viktoria laughed softly and bolted out the room yelling for Sonja and Karolina. Dread filled Dimitri as he realized that his whole family was probably at the academy. And Viktoria had caught him with Roza.. Oh no. With a jolt he shot up out of bed and frantically searched for his pants and shoes. Rose, who had woken up from the commotion was sitting up straight in the bed and was looking at him in confusion and shock. “What the hell is going on? Who was that chick?”
Dimitri froze in his frantic search and sighed softly before hoisting up his pants and walking over to her. “Apparently my family arrived.” He started softly, looking quite worried for he didn’t know how his family would take to Rose. “They..” He paused and looked quite uncomfortable. “Can be rather loud.” He finished softly, though his tone suggested that his family was more than just loud. They could be rather difficult people to work with. Not that he didn’t love his family, they meant the world to him. They simply didn’t know how to keep a secret. And in their current situation, keeping secrets was quite necessary.
Rose didn’t say anything for a few minutes, but slowly a smile was working itself upon her beautiful face. “Go.” Was all she said and Dimitri nodded gratefully before bolting out the door.
Dimitri ran after his sister, determined to catch up to her before she babbled about his relationship to the entire family. But as he entered the foyer, he realized he was too late. For Viktoria had found his family, and looked to be animately talking to his mother, grandmother and siblings. Just great.
"доброе утро, соня!**" Karolina greeted him as he walked up to the group of women. "Dimka(*), idi syuda. Day vasha mat' obnyat'.***" His mother said as she walked towards him and wrapped her arms around her only son. “How are you, Dimka? Have you been behaving?”
Dimitri sighed softly and nodded. “Yes, mama, I have been behaving.” He said expressly as he hugged his mother. After a minute he took a step back and nervously looked at the group of smiling women. What exactly had Viktoria told them? He wasn’t sure if he still wanted to know.
“So, Dimitri.” Sonja began as she leisurely walked up to her brother and stopped about a foot in front of him. “Who’s the girl that shared your bed last night?” Dimitri looked at his younger sister in discomfort. “Her name is Rose.” He finally admitted, looking rather uncomfortable with it all.
“Do you love this Rose, Dimka?” Yeva asked her grandson, looking at Dimitri with her usual no nonsense stare.
“He doesn’t shut up about her!” A voice yelled and as Dimitri looked up dread filled him. Lissa had been the one to yell, with a giggling Rose next to her. Just fantastic.
Dimitri cleared his throat and pointed upward to the two young women. “Mama, Nonna, I introduce to you Princess Vasilisa Dragomir and her guardian in training, Rose Hathaway.”
Yeva nodded in understanding and gestured for the girls to come down. Within seconds the elderly woman had her arms wrapped around Rose and welcomed her in the family. “Beautiful, simply stunning. You take good care of our Dimka, yes?” Not waiting for Rose to answer she extended the same courtesy to Lissa. “Honor to meet you, your highness.”
Dimitry felt Sonja bump into him and the giant looked down at his sister with a frown, only to blush as he heard her next words.
"Moy Dimitriy, moy brat. Ona velikolepna, molodets!****" Sonja exclaimed, laughing as she spotted her brothers blush.
Dimitri’s family was definitely a crazy one, but as he thought on it he really wouldn’t have it any other way. He wrapped an arm around Rose and led the family outside to one of the quiet courtyards. As long as Kirova didn’t find out, he supposed it wasn’t so bad that his family knew of his relationship. Actually, it felt rather nice to stand amongst them with Rose at his side.
As it should be.
Meaning of the russian:
* Soul mate
** Good morning, sleepyhead!
*** Come here, Give your mother a hug.
**** "My Dimitri, my brother. She's gorgeous, well done!"
“He used to talk to me about Russia all the time and had sworn up and down that I'd love it here. "To you, it'd be like a fairy tale," he'd told me.
"Sorry, comrade. Borg and out-of-date music aren't part of any happy ending I've ever imagined."
"Borscht, not borg. And I've seen your appetite. If you were hungry enough, you'd eat it."
"So starvation's necessary for this fairy tale to work out?”
Dimitri Belikov and Rose Hathaway on Russia, Blood Promise
"Roza.." Dimitri started to say as he gently cradled her cheek in his hand and ran his thumb over it ever so gently. "We can't. Because the moment I'll let myself fall in love with you, I won't jump in front of her, I'll jump in front of you. As a guardian.. I can't let that happen." He paused and briefly looked away before looking back up.
