Animal of the Day!
Chilean Recluse Spider (Loxosceles laeta)
(Photo from Animal Spot)
Conservation Status- Unlisted
Habitat- South America
Size (Weight/Length)- 15 mm
Diet- Insects; Other Chilean recluse spiders
Cool Facts- The Chilean recluse spider is seen as the most dangerous recluse spider due to its disease-causing venom. They build large and disorganized webs but are active hunters as well. During the night, the Chilean recluse spider leaves its web to hunt down any insect it can get its fangs around. However, even if you spot one of these spiders living in your shed, don’t kill them. These spiders rarely bite humans unless pressured into doing so. They sometimes slip into clothing and are startled when their hiding spot is suddenly pressed against a possible threat, i.e. your skin. Their bite causes the area to go necrotic and can take months to heal in good cases. In the bad, and very rare cases, the venom can cause kidney failure and death. Despite this, they still remain an essential part in controlling the insect population, including mosquitos.
Rating- 11/10 (Also called the Corner Spider.)
[VIDEO AND PHOTOS TAKEN: SEPTEMBER 24TH, 2024 | Video and Image IDs: A video and two photos of a brown, brown recluse. In the video, a white towel is flipped over to reveal the spider, who proceeds to crawl around, away from the hand of the person filming. In the photos, it's being carried away on a paper card /End IDs.]
A good reason to check towels that have been sitting out for a little bit! Especially in the south! Might be venomous friends in there :P

araña de rincon
Just had to kill my first ever "araña de rincón" (Chile's most dangerous spider and one of the most venomous of them all) and I'm horrified because i found it in my room on top of my microphone while observing a ant line that were after a piece of candy I had forgotten so yeah tomorrow I'll vacuum the whole ass house just in case but now I need motivation to go back to bed in that room.
Doctor: Ugh, why isn’t there any evidence on loxoscelism treatment?
Student: But is there any incentive to produce any?
Doctor: Good point.
Loxosceles laeta, massive for a recluse!
