Process: I never finish a piece in one day. Ever. This is how I work, and this is a glimpse of only one spot in my studio. -I’ll spend a day making bezels with a selection of stones that I’d like to work with in the near future . Some may have an intended purpose in my mind, some may not. -I’m constantly stamping out and hand sawing doo dads. Sometimes with a specific design in mind, sometimes not. I always cut extra. -Maybe I make my handmade bells one day. -I’ll spend a few days making metal clay elements. These take a day to dry, then I have to sand them, then I have to fire them in a kiln. -Some days I’ll hammer a bunch of sheet or shot into some dies. -All my designs are in my head. I do not draw them out (usually) -When I make all these elements I make most of them with a certain design in mind. But not always. There’s always extra, to allow for a loose stream of conscious way of making. -One day I’ll design with all the elements I’ve created. -Then I’ll spend a day sawing out backplates, and making any additional stamped doo dads that are needed. -Then I’ll solder all the things, and add any additional stamping. *These last few steps are usually the part you see here. -Then I have to sand and tumble the pieces, which is at least a two day process. -I patina, and set the stones next. And then finally touch up the finish. -Then I step outside or go up to my photo box and take the first photo of the finished piece. -After that, I have to do all the mathing and write all the listings. It’s never done in one day. *I have all these cardboards laying all over my studio. I use them to layout designs. Take pieces set up for soldering to my soldering area. They hold bezeled stones waiting for the design process. When I work upstairs I use them to transfer pieces in process up and down the stairs. These are the cardboards @riogrande sends with my orders. #recycleandreuse https://www.instagram.com/p/BvUDy8GAALU/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=186wila45w57t
