December 8, 2016 in Taiji, Japan. A pod of 30+ Short-finned Pilot Whales were driven into the infamous killing cove the previous day. After spending the night, the hunters began to push the adults into the shore beneath the tarps. Here, the majority were murdered while few watched as the water turned red with the blood of their family. As the skiffs took a small number of the lifeless bodies away, a single whale was spotted desperately trying to escape the slaughter. Its flukes were still tied, and it was clearly injured. It swam slowly to the nets, pink tinted clouds of mist flying into the air with each gasp. It tried so hard to live. But the hunters returned, and before long, they dragged the injured mammal back under the tarps. That was the last time we saw that whale. ------ This was my first time drawing a Pilot Whale. I think it looks pretty decent. Still have no clue how to draw water. ;w; I watched the dolphin drive live via The Dolphin Project's Facebook page. I saw this happen live. And I never want to see it again. Learn how you can help end this senseless slaughter of dolphins and small whales here. Time Taken: ~1 hour Layers: <40
