Red Velvet Added the Red Flavor in Singapore!
SM Entertainment’s refreshing girl group Red Velvet has finally held their 2nd concert [REDMARE] in Singapore on the 20th October, 6pm at The Star Theatre, The Star Performing Arts Centre. This marks the first concert Red Velvet held in Singapore. The long-awaited concert has also accumulated a total of 4000 fans, also known as Reveluv.
The concert began with the video of the 5 girls going to an amusement park excitedly. They were running excitedly and laughing happily when a tiny robot appeared at a corner which seems to be stalking them. As the girls approached the robot, it brought them to another dimension. With that, Red Velvet appeared on the stage of The Star Theatre with ‘Russian Roulette’.
They proceeded with their latest title track ‘Power Up’ and their Japan album title track ‘Cookie Jar’. After the opening stage, the members introduced themselves and welcomed Reveluv to their concert, Redmare. It was the first time they performed this in Singapore and the fans showed great reaction to their performance. Leader Irene was surprised that the fans knew what they were saying in Korean and were quick to react when Seulgi was asking them questions. Wendy, knowing the fans love ‘Power Up’, suggested to the fans that they should learn the choreography. Joy led the teaching session by showing the choreography of the “banana” part and the baby shark dance. After each of the teaching session, Reveluvs joined Red Velvet and danced to the choreography that they’ve learned.
Following that fun learning experience with Red Velvet, the girls moved on to their next performances by first dancing to a really cool and strong beat remix of ’My Second Date’ as well as a short snippet from its original song. After that, they showed ‘Mosquito’ and ‘Look’.
In the next VCR, the members were lured by animals from the other dimension but was hunted and trapped by some hunters. They then appeared on the stage in their cages and while escaping, they performed ‘Mr. E’, ‘Zoo’ and their debut track ‘Happiness’ with a short dance remix after Wendy’s high note part. They also performed ‘Hit That Drum’ which was the opening song of their reality show, Level Up Project Season 3.
Another VCR was played and the girls were just doing their personal things in a house before leaving it and went to the front yard. There and then, Irene gave them a what seem like a potion which was prepared by herself. The girls consumed it and Seulgi and Yeri turned tiny whereas Wendy and Joy turned into a giant.
After the VCR, Red Velvet appeared on the stage and performed ‘Lucky Girl’ and ‘Bad Dracula’ before the lights dimmed. When the lights turned on, Joy was nowhere to be seen and Seulgi explained that she has a problem with her in-ear and had to fix it. Irene continued to show her exclamation towards the energy of Singapore Reveluvs and said they were energetic. While waiting for Joy’s return, the 4 girls went to both sides of the stage to greet the fans sitting at both ends. They also explained the name of their lightstick, ‘kimmanbong’, which means kimchi mandu (dumpling) bong (stick). The fans said the lightstick’s name is cute but Seulgi said the fans are cuter. Maknae Yeri mentioned that they have performed many new songs so she wanted to know which song was the fans’ favourite and wanted to see the most. Irene caught what the fans were saying and answered Yeri that compared to ‘Power Up’ and the songs inside the albums, fans actually wanted to see ‘Bad Boy’. So, Irene asked Reveluvs to promise to cheer ‘differently’ when they perform ‘Bad Boy’.
As the talk went on, Seulgi started to explain the theme of their concert where they were caught by a robot. The girls gave the fans a sudden test to see if they know the name of the robot but unfortunately most of them didn’t know. Yeri then explained that she named the robot ‘Reve’ as she wanted the name of the robot to be similar to Reveluv. Amusingly, in French, the word ‘reve’ actually means mystery which fits the concert’s theme. Seulgi also showed off and mentioned that she was the designer of Reve. The girls said they each took part in making this concert so it was meaningful. From the previous concert in other countries, the girls dyed and changed their hairstyles.
Suddenly, Seulgi announced something serious. Joy who has a pain in her shoulder while performing had to withdraw from the concert to rest at the backstage. After that announcement, the members continued to talk to the fans where they told them they had chilli crab, pepper crab, mantou (the bread which comes with it) and kaya bread. Yeri then had a sudden realization that as the talk session got longer, it felt like they were having a fanmeeting and it was fun. They took this opportunity to talk more to Singapore Reveluvs.
After some time, Joy appeared with a bandage wrapped around her arm. As she appeared, she cried while explaining that her arm was painful and had to go to the hospital. She felt apologetic as it was a rare chance for Singapore Reveluvs to see them performing. Before leaving, she told the fans to enjoy the rest of the concert without her. Fans sent her off by continuously saying ‘it’s okay’. With a heavy heart, they continued with their concert. The girls performed ‘All Right’ while throwing some balls to the fans, ‘Blue Lemonade’, ‘About Love’ and ‘Moonlight Melody’.
The mood changed into horror after the previous performances where the girls appeared in a haunted house and were running away. Following the VCR, they performed a short dance cover of the remix of ‘Ice Cream Cake’ before proceeding to the fans’ favourite stage, ‘Bad Boy’ as well as ‘Peek-A-Boo’ and ‘Dumb Dumb’, also with a short robot dance remix. After the performances, Red Velvet explained that while filming the VCR, it was scary but it was a great experience since all of them were in a small scary atmospheric place. They felt hot before filming the VCR but was chilly after the recording thanks to the chill they received. Wendy praised Reveluvs for keeping their promise and cheered hardly during ‘Bad Boy’s performance. Yeri also said it was amazing.
Without knowing it, the concert had reached its final stage. The girls performed ‘Red Flavor’ and ‘Rookie’ before moving on to their encore stage. Before the encore stage, a VCR was played and showed that Irene was the culprit behind all the fuss of their previous VCRs. At the encore stage, they performed ‘Ice Cream Cake’ and ‘Day 1’.
Finally, the girls left their ending ment. Wendy was expressing her feelings in Korean and it was only after some time that she realized she was speaking in Korean but can actually use English as she is in Singapore. She expressed her gratitude by saying she had a blast and Reveluvs were like a gift to her because without them, they couldn’t be there. Seulgi expressed her gratitude to Reveluvs’ energy and excitement which were the reason for them to finish their stage well. Yeri apologized for the incomplete stage but also thanked Singapore Reveluvs for being energetic. Lastly, Irene mentioned that because the fans were singing along to ‘Red Flavor’, she actually took out her in-ear and danced to what the fans were singing.
Although the stage wasn’t complete from half of the concert onwards, the Red Velvet members were extremely grateful towards the cheers from Reveluvs. The girls promised next time when they come back, they will come back with all 5 members healthily. We also hope to see the stage from all 5 members too.
