“I know. I never asked to be the one to track you down. How do you think it makes me feel? We’ve worked together mutable times and it’s unfair to have to hunt someone down, who I see as a friend.” What should he do? Should he just— do his job? Shoot him and get it over with? Reno was gripping his gun so tightly, that his hand was hurting. His gun pointing at Zack— and by now, Reno’s hands were shaking and his breathing was uneven. F U C K
“I don’t want to believe the rumors..I don’t want to hurt you. Is it true that you and Cloud were test subjects? Is that why he’s not responsive?” Reno lowered his gun–but he didn’t put it away. “You look like shit..”
“I’m sure you know that the Turks aren’t just the ones after us either,” he said, eyebrows calmly arching upwards at the gun that the other carried. The SOLDIER’s tone was like gravel, frustration and exhaustion hanging off every word. “Let me assure you this: there are not enough bullets in that gun for you to kill me. Put it away.”
Whether or not it was a bluff, Zack wasn’t even sure. He’d been shot at as he had fled Nibelheim. One bullet was still embedded into his flesh, his body healing over it too rapidly for him to do anything about it.
Zack frowned. “He’s got mako poisoning,” he admitted, his sword raised but his overly charged blue eyes gazing away. “It’s bad.” Part of him hated to admit it, but he had figured Cloud was only going to survive for a few more weeks if Zack couldn’t find him any help.
An uncertain laugh came out of the SOLDIER at the comment about his appearance. Grinning, he shrugged. “Apparently I haven’t showered in four years,” he said blandly. “Can you believe it? Stuck in a tank for four years.”
