[Dick nearly misses the call.

He'd just returned home from patrol, and is slipping back through the window of his apartment when he catches the muffled sound of the unfamiliar ringtone. 'Uptown Girl' by Billy Joel--it had been a joke when he'd set it, something they'd both laughed at. It isn't until he reaches the phone and reads over the name that he really feels himself freeze. Everything slows down, and the world is spinning at half the rate it was before. 'Timothy Jackson Drake'. Tim was calling him.

And then, just as suddenly, everything accelerates. His head, his mind, and his fingers, which fumble to find the right button to answer the call.

He brings the phone to his ear, mumbling inarticulately into the receiver.]
