I got my hair cut short today -- like, so short. I've never had it this short except for an ill-considered bob when I was about twelve. (I looked like one of those victorian porcelain dolls with the painted-on hair. it was awful.) I've been feeling the need to make my body more me, more like what I feel like on the inside. (The next step is probably purple streaks. Then new ear piercings. Then maybe a tattoo.)

Anyway -- I love this so much. It's making me feel like Alanna of Trebond or a 1920s suffragette or a whimsical pixie-blooded girl on the moors. And it's so fluffy.

It made me so happy I actually sketched a self-portrait and that turned out cute enough I decided to post it. XD Haven't done anything more than a doodle in years but I really do enjoy doing sketch portraits... Might have to take that up again sometime.

I couldn't resist posting these fan covers all together as one image because I love so much how they look next to each other. If you haven't read the Lifeline AU series by @/slashmagpie, you REALLY should. It's dramatic, and angsty, and suspenseful, and lyrical, and well-characterized, and I adore it.

My entire brain has been overtaken by the Lifeline AU series over the last week or so and I couldn't resist making covers for the whole thing. So here's part one: Empty Oceans, by @slashmagpie.

Tango is an astronaut who has crash-landed on a distant moon far from home. His ship is destroyed, his crew is gone, and he has no way out of here alive. All he has is gritty determination, a healthy amount of sarcasm, and a radio that can only reach one person who isn’t any more prepared to deal with this crisis than he is. Impulse is an engineer who’s been getting into radio tech lately on the urging of his best friend and personal annoyance, Skizz. He can’t seem to get his radio to work, however—at least, not until it starts picking up a distress signal from the other side of the galaxy. Honestly, he probably shouldn’t be getting involved in this, considering he has no idea what he’s doing, but it sounds like this guy really needs help. And who is Impulse to turn down someone in need of help?

Between the ghostly coma patient haunting his lab and the alien lifeform attempting to take over his body, Etho’s been having a weird week. It only gets weirder when, in order to keep the alien parasite at bay, he must make a deal with the devil for his own survival. Still, it probably could be worse: all Bdubs wants in exchange is for Etho to help him with some math. Etho can handle a little math. False promised Tango that she’ll get what remains of their crew home, but doing so is easier said than done. With half their systems knocked out and no way to make it back to Earth, the Hermethius is on a timer and it’s not looking good. In searching for a second option, she stumbles upon a third: an apparition of a man with powers beyond her comprehension, offering a way out. The Architect of Time is up against the clock. After failing the most important thing he’s ever had to do, he has one last chance to get it right. He cannot fail this time.

and last but not least, Lost Boys, the fourth main fic in the Lifeline AU series by @slashmagpie. I just finished the fic tonight and I Am Emotionally Compromised. You should go read it.

I am begging you to go read it. And talk to me about it.

So, Tango isn’t dead. That’s a good thing, because if he’d gone through all that trouble to die now, he needn’t have bothered with all the effort. What’s less good is that he’s trapped somewhere beyond a black hole, with no way home and no idea what to do. Oh, and the aliens. The aliens are here too. Pearl isn’t dead. Which is weird, because she’d rather thought she would be, and she’s not really sure what to do now that she isn’t. She’s also trapped on the other side of a magical portal with no way to get back—but maybe that isn’t so much of a bad thing. Or, at least, it wouldn’t be, if it weren’t for the fact that this place is riddled with demons. Impulse is tired of waiting for a message. It’s time to send one of his own.

Fan cover for the second (amazing) fic in the (amazing) Lifeline AU series by @slashmagpie, My Blood

Pearl has it all: a tragic backstory, an arm full of scars, and an arsenal of dark magics in her back pocket. The one thing she doesn’t have—besides, you know, money, a home, hope, a future—is her brother, who she’s spent the last decade looking for. With the final stretch of her journey ahead of her, she makes one last attempt to reach Grian, only to find herself talking to a complete stranger instead. And, well, beggars can’t be choosers, and Pearl could really do with a friend right now. Impulse is only just beginning to comprehend what happened last week, when his dodgy radio connected him to an astronaut on the other side of the galaxy in dire need of help. Still reeling from the revelations of that incident, he finds himself faced with a new challenge: a girl talking to him through bloody wounds on his arm, walking a path she can’t survive alone. …Impulse has been here before. It’s a shame he hasn’t learned how to say no.

series of fic fan covers in process that I'm actually in love with. I've never done this many fan covers so close together but the super stylized nature of these makes the process a lot faster than it would normally be.

Experimenting with some different techniques today and I think I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, for a first try!

Anyway, you should go read Monsters Splitting Hairs, by @silverskye13 for some amazing epic fantasy Doc and Ren and Gem shenanigans with a bit of a horror-mystery element... it's so dang good.
