REFLECTION - SECOND QUARTER
The second quarter was particularly scary because we all knew that the major requirement for it was no joke. For this quarter, we had to conduct a forum.
We had to plan it, advertise it, all the logistics and everything. The whole thing. Picking a topic was a bit hard, since both Rooms A and C had already listed down theirs. In the end, we decided on a forum which discussed SYP life. We remembered how hard it was to choose our tracks and how confused we were when we did it, so we collectively agreed on conducting a forum about that.
The event was held in the school’s canteen, and it was called “PiSaYP: A Guide on SCALE-ing the Right Track.” The selected speakers were Nash (for the Biology and Chemistry tracks), Dagny (for the Physics, Technology, and Computer Science tracks), and Sir Jed (for the SCALE Program). Our selected audience were the Grade 10 students, since they were the ones about to enter SYP life. I had no idea how they rated us, but I really hope that our forum helped them somehow.
For this project, I acted as part of the Marketing team. This involved drafting posters and invitations for the approval of our event coordinator. I enjoyed this, since it encouraged me to get in touch with my creative side. Being a very creative person, I didn’t really mind doing the work. I love requirements that let me do that, since I know that I’m not exactly a science person or what. Besides this, our team collected the attendance stubs and had the students sign the attendance sheets. We did most of our work before the event, so we weren’t too busy during the actual event. Kudos to Cherry and Teresa for handling each of the teams and bringing everything together so well, because without them, the event wouldn’t have been successful.
Another thing we did this quarter was conduct a mock FGD. I had a lot of fun during this, as both a respondent/participant and facilitator. Our group’s topic was favorite shows/series, and I learned a lot from the participants included. The answers we got were so varied, and it was nice to find out that the class’ interests ranged from comedy to drama to mystery/thriller. I noted some of the shows that they mentioned, cause their answers interested me and I wanted to check some of those shows out. For the FGD we participated in, we answered questions about our experiences in the school’s laboratory. Nash and I had so much to say since we spent a lot of time there for our research. It was fun because we got to voice out our concerns and find out that other people agreed with us as well.
This quarter included many fun activities, and I’m really glad that we were all able to pull off the forum we conducted. Public speaking comes next… and I guess we’ll see how I handle that.
