“Don’t just let them attack you, fools!”
A porcelain-plated Phyrexian centurion hissed in a raspy tone to her subordinates. Due to the Multiversal invasion spreading Mother Norn’s forces thin, she had been forced to make do with reinforcements from the Autonomous Furnace. And true to their name, they were acting independently, albeit uselessly.
The creatures of flame and blackened steel stood idle amid the barrage of fire magic burning all around them. The denizens of this plane had proven frustratingly resilient, but the Furnace forces would prove useful against them. That is, had they not chosen inaction.
“Advance! Attack! That is an order!”
One of the goblin workers shook its forked head. “No. We answer to Urabrask. And without his orders, we will not aggress. Especially not against fellow pyromancers.”
“Pyro-” The centurion’s claws curled into fists, clenching so hard as to reveal the crimson tendons beneath her porcelain. “You emit flames, not cast them!”
All the Furnace Phyrexians simultaneously began shooting flames from the gaps in their plating. This was accompanied by a chorus of engine-like rumbling, sounding almost like laughter.
“Close enough. And they seem to think so, too.”
The centurion gazed past the traitors at the incompleat defenders behind them. Sure enough, despite giving them some serious side eye, the mages carefully sidled around the Furnace workers to continue their assault - on her.
“This is treason!” snarled the loyalist, just before she was engulfed by flames. As her ashes scattered on the wind, the remaining Phyrexians gave the mages some clanking applause.
“Well done.”
One of the Regathan mages waved warily to the Phyrexians. “Thanks…? So, truce?”
“With us. Not Norn’s forces.”
“What’s the…oh.”
The mage stared up tired at the porcelain walkers stomping into view overhead.
“Fire will work on them as well.”
“T-Thanks,” the mage nodded, as she aimed her flames upward alongside two of her friends.
[I know there was Atraxa’s chapter, but I wish they’d explored more about Phyrexians seeing all the new worlds. It would’ve been a good prelude to the various planes’ cultural exchange from the omenpaths, I feel.]
What a mood.
Order of Heliud thoughts: Planes like Regatha, presumably the plane their founder came from, where the Order is in the open, are their strongholds, but they have pockets of influence on planes of interest, where they are the semi-anonymous patrons of a more independent group they can trust with their interests
Mount Keralia by Franz Vohwinkel
"Jaya herself lacked the patience to found or maintain a monastery, but the monks well remember her "teachings"—mere sayings, really, and in fact much more like quips." - So like the rest of us, they remember her flavourtexts.
It’s like the Keral Keep monastery was founded by someone who jotted down a bunch of bumper stickers and treated them as holy texts. :)
Granted, they were some pretty solid bumper stickers, especially if you’re into fire magic.
So the Regatha we we’re shown today didn’t look a lot like Regathan Firecat.
Cons to the new design:
Regathan firecat now looks weird
