CLOSED laurel starter for @reinventedherself
She hates that she’s jealous. It’s not as if the thing that Michaela has going with Asher is anything real or lasting, but it’s something. It’s more than Laurel has right now. She’s really feeling the lack of Frank in her life, the gaping hole that he’d left the moment he’d left town. She prides herself in being a strong woman -- she needs no man, she’s told herself, but she does. She needs him and she loves him despite everything, and that’s what makes this so hard.
Everyone in their group has someone. Some weird connections, to be sure, complex relationships, but there’s someone for everyone. Annalise has Nate, Michaela has Asher, Wes has Meggy, Connor has Oliver... leaving her alone. There’s Bonnie, she muses, but it’s hard to imagine her with anyone. She holds them all at a distance. Maybe Laurel does, too. Maybe that’s why when Wes mentions leaving Meggy, implying that he wants to be with her, she pushes him away. Frank’s not gone.
She lifts her gaze to meet Michaela’s, putting on her best fake smile. She can’t let Michaela see her falter. Laurel’s putting on this front that everything’s okay. No one is supposed to know about Frank. But damn she’s tired of lying, of false pretenses, of smiling when all she wants is to break down. She’s barely holding herself together. “So, dinner?” Laurel asks in a friendly tone, maybe a bit nicer than her usual voice. She’s putting it on a little thick. Maybe Michaela won’t notice. “What are you in the mood for?”
@reinventedherself !!
“Hi, um, Barry Allen, CSI.”
@reinventedherself liked THIS for a small starter.
“this, perhaps, is HARDLY an appropriate place at a time like this.” he remarks as if talking about the WEATHER, standing a couple of steps away from the girl, eyes aimed on the other side of the street, at NOTHING SPECIFIC.
