JURASSIC PARK 4 WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FRANCHISE KILLER, HAD TRICERATOPS AND T. REX HUMAN HYBRIDS FIGHT AT THE END ACCORDING TO CONCEPT ARTIST CARLOS HUANTE
May 6th, 2018, I managed to privately message veteran concept artist Carlos Huante about his work for Jurassic Park 4.
I asked him why the T. rex and Triceratops hybrid concepts were made since they weren’t in the leaked script.
Carlos replied mentioned that it was for a big fight at the end of the film, he offered them to the director (in later posts he mentioned he worked directly with Joe Johnston) so they could fully flesh out and make the story interesting. The leaked script was a stand in and there was no final script made.
Carlos continued to mention that the big fight was between the T. rex man and Triceratops man to mimic the fight those two animals had in their original state and the director conceived the film as a “franchise killer” but was shut down by the studio because they wanted to continue.
Carlos and I later agreed that the idea would have been great as a spin off, so Universal/Amblin didn’t have to worry about alienating audiences so they can keep the traditional dinosaurs while also going with the terrifying hybrid beasts.
There it is! The main details from my chat with the great Carlos Huante and it was brief but fun! I didn’t upload or copy the interview beat by beat as I feel it would be evasion of privacy so I only highlighted the important parts.
Personally I would have loved to have seen this version of Jurassic Park 4, or just as a film on it’s own. Raptors with dog and human DNA who shoots guns and two giant T. rex and Triceratops hybrids duking it out sounds impossible for me to resist. I even try to imagine what type of environments the T. rex and Triceratops men would fight in; a forest, a giant creepy lab or a dungeon.
