... When you think of religion.. What comes to your mind?.. Is it a set of rules, regulations and obligations...or a deep, intimate relationship with God? . I like to consider myself someone who has a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ... I believe He died so we could live an abundant fulfilling life in vital relationship with Him, not just a bunch of rules and regulations that we are forced to follow... Yes, there are certain guidelines God wants us to follow, but His purpose in giving them is to protect us from the consequences of sin. . When we have a real relationship with God through Christ, life gets exciting because He stirs up a passion inside of us to love people... And we don't have to struggle to do the things He calls us to... it just happens naturally.. When God calls us He equips us to accomplish the thing He has called us to do!. . I want you to know that God loves you.. If there is one thing I want to resonate within you today is that GOD LOVES YOU!.. That's all there is to it... He may not like everything you do, but He's never going to stop loving you!.. Our worth and value are found in who we are in Christ, not in what we do... Because of Jesus, we have been made right with God and He views us as perfect even as we continue to grow and mature in Him.. If we do not have a relationship with God and are not secure in God’s love for us, it affects every area, including our prayers. . Many of us don't pray and ask God for what we need because we don't think we have a right to ask. But the Bible says God wants us to learn how to receive His mercy. . Hebrews 4:15 says we have a High Priest, a perfect Savior, who understands our weaknesses. He's been tempted just like we are, yet He never sinned. . Verse 16 says we can come fearlessly and confidently before God in prayer to receive His mercy and be forgiven... Today I encourage you to receive God's mercy and forgiveness and say Yes to the most important relationship you will ever have.. Does God hate religion?
I will start off with the Bible verse:
James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
The above phrase emphasises that the only religion that God views as undefiled is giving aid to others. I believe this is because it is more than just doing something that is obligatory, it is a selfless act of caring for those who are vulnerable in society. It shows that you are not only fulfilling the second greatest commandment to love our neighbour, but you are reflecting Our Father Himself who gave His Only Son up for us as a sacrifice to atone for our sins.
Helping someone comes from the heart!
PHARISEES
Romans 10:2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.
Romans 10:3 Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness for everyone who believes.
-In speaking of the Pharisees, they were fervent and zealous in keeping the laws and traditions of the Jewish faith. Zeal refers to having great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective. This enables us to understand that the Pharisees were well versed in the Scriptures, but they missed the mark. They missed the One who justified them as righteous before God, Jesus Christ. Jesus told them sternly in John 5:39 “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, V.40. yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.”
This shows that following the rules and regulations of a religion does not get you into heaven. Our life should not be about whether we do good or bad, but how much we have allowed God to glorify Himself within us. If our foundation is based on Jesus Christ, in good times we will worship Him and in bad times we will worship Him. After all the mystery, the righteousness of God is Jesus Christ and His death has allowed us to approach His throne of Grace with confidence at anytime or anyplace. No matter what we do, we can go to Jesus Christ because we have that RELATIONSHIP with Him.The Pharisees read, recited and studied the Scriptures. They were religious! They did everything they could to be “righteous”, but John the Baptist described them as a “brood of vipers” (Matthew 12:44). How could you understand who God is, if you have created your own rules to abide by? If they pursued God out of a clean heart, He would have revealed to them who Jesus was. (A great example is the woman at the well in John 4, who asked Jesus for living water, although she was a sinner. We fall short everyday, but if we are in Christ, we will stand tall).
So does God hate religion? I’ll let you decide for yourself... Undoubtedly, I know that God wants us to be in relationship with Him.
Baptism 💕 Exactly a year ago, this happened. The Lord totally showed up and dwelled among us! I remember after I got baptized, someone said “Congratulations Karol!” and for the first time in a very long time, I felt that I had truly accomplished something so worthwhile!
