This is an amazing story. Read on... . #Repost @mathfactsandbackpacks with @repostsaveapp · · · Hood on. Head down. Walls up. • We all know “that” kid. The walls are high. The “defiance” is strong. The relationship is weak. We rack our brains trying to find some new strategy to make a connection, but we forget the oldest, most effective strategy out there: listening. • A while back, I had the most simple, easy-to-forget conversation with “that kid” about fruits and vegetables. That’s it. Nothing groundbreaking. Nothing that opened my eyes to his world. Just fruits and vegetables. • We talked about our mutual hatred for veggies and our never-ending love for fruits. He said he likes citrus fruits. “Lemons are actually my favorite, but my mom says they’re bad for my teeth.” I asked him, “Have you ever had a grapefruit?” Nope, never. • Ask me what I stopped for on my way to school this morning. Grapefruit. Two, actually. I called his teacher just minutes into the school day to ask him to come down. When he walked into my room, I could see it was already a tough day. I told him good morning and held up the plastic produce bag with two large grapefruits. One to try, one to eat later if he enjoyed it. • And with that—grapefruit—his morning turned around. But it wasn’t the grapefruit that made the difference. It was the fact that an adult who he’s had ONE conversation with listened. • The Walmart receipt said grapefruit. It was more than a grapefruit. • #teacherlife #relationshipsfirst https://www.instagram.com/p/BwnmmPahOKY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1wnlb9ocbyd7a
