That’s the only way any of this’ll be worth anything in the long run---you’ve got to work harder than whoever they put you up against, and if you don’t you might as well die.” An adage he’d overheard a coach saying the night prior was still bothering him. Clearly.

“Anyway--” He paused to kill a water bottle, his third within the last forty-five minutes. He was too hungover for this, but he expected her to be there early and held himself to that same standard.

“I have no real advice for you yet, so just fuckin’ skate.”
