Will Producers Make DJs Obsolete?

There is one of these funny quotes that has floated around the DJ and producer community, it goes like this, “DJ’s wish they could produce, and producers wish they could DJ.”  Is this still a relevant comment given the types of gear we have available to us?  Think about it.  DJs and producers use basically the same gear.  They both make use of MIDI controllers, they both understand computer technology and programs, and they both have the same goal: to get music out to the masses.  With innovations like mixers that can remix music on the fly – it is getting harder to see where you draw the line between the two. Obviously the DJ has much more of a live aspect to their work, while music of the producer’s work is culminated into one song, with hours of work never to be revealed to audiences.  Where will we be in the next 10 years?  Perhaps production will be done on the fly, and perhaps DJs will actually produce their own tracks rather than mixing them.  It’s hard to tell where things are headed or if it is for the better.  There is little that can be done to dictate the direction of it all.   http://www.djtechtools.com/2013/04/23/will-producers-make-djs-obsolete/
