Ren Lucky
Ren Lucky earned his name. Luck seemed to grace him daily when he ran from authorities and wrote covers for his code as it worked through and any all systems. He had the god Mercury on his side, and was a little annoyed that his latest creation was dubbed “The Hermes Virus”. It was a decently fitting name, but Mercury was much more aggressive than Hermes and he deserved the recognition.
Ren put code out faster than anyone else, and hardly any of it has ever been traced back to him. His digital name was simply “Lucky”, his signature on everything he uploaded to the ISW. He was invincible, disappearing without a trace whenever danger threatened to pop up, wiping all illegal activity before running away. Months later, Lucky would reemerge and the hunt was on again.
In a time when 99.9% of all data and communication was electronic, Ren had taken to communicating via paper notes that could be burned to destroy all evidence, passed by hand or even carrier pigeon. Ren communicated with his entire web without leaving any trace; no path for anyone to follow.
Being such an infamous coder, Ren wasn’t afraid to use his real name. It was a common enough first name to not arouse suspicion, and he passed his second name off as a joke. He never had a legal second name, so “Lucky” just stuck, not that he minded.
Nobody would suspect the sporty-looking kid who came in for coffee everyday for the past three months to be the Lucky. But when word of Lucky’s location spread the same day Ren disappeared, people felt it was more than a coincidence. But no run of the card he used to pay, his voice, or his face resulted in any useful information in any data systems on any planet in the entire Interstellar Coalition.
All he was in the government system was “Ren”, with no permanent address or emergency contact information. The empty space under “Known Relatives” lead most to believe he was a public system ward. But when he released the Hermes Virus, the Interstellar Coalition had enough. They sent out Athena, their specialized bounty hunter android, to find him and bring him back. Neither have been heard from since.
