Well Susie, that’s an easy one. A ‘blueview’ is something you’ll find on all the blues online sites, and even in some ‘real’ magazines. It’s a review that endeavours (against the laws of physics, any credibility and all the available evidence) to prove that a song, a CD or a band have some tenuous connection with the ‘blues’.
“But that just sounds plain wrong!”
Indeed it is, Susie. But you can understand that folks might want to make the ‘blues’ world more inclusive. Or far-reaching. Or interesting.
“When you put it like that, I guess it makes sense. Can you ‘blueview’ anyone?
Of course. Once you’ve decided to blueview, all genres are fair game: classic rock, psychedelia, soul, funk, country. Even chart-topping pretend-Compton gang-banger-R&B can be bluewashed, if you really grit your teeth.
“Bluewashed?! Oh my, my head is spinning now Professor! So, if it’s so widespread, does it work?”
For just long enough to make the PR blurb, sadly, yes.
