“how long has it last been since you slept?”
Though the question was heard clearly, it took quite a bit for golden optics to drift towards the angel; dark circles were evident beneath almond shaped eyes, they a telling sign of the sleep - or lack there of - that had caused Kemuel to be concerned. And though eyes met those of her partner, pupils did not dilate upon contact to show awareness, instead they remained distant. Glazed over with the struggle to remain alert and functioning.
“ Hm? ” Came an eventual hum in question, hand extended to her right so that fingertips could take hold of the curved handle that was attached to a mug, a slight tremor of fatigue present as it was then lifted and edge brought to a full bottom lip. Some coffee to hopefully bring some awareness to her being, the warm liquid soothed as it flowed down her throat, to warm her belly. All the while thoughts sluggishly pondered how long it had been since she’d slept, perhaps seventy-two ( 72 ) hours?
With the pandemic that presently ravaged the country, Skylar had been placed on the ward specifically to handle such cases - immune as she was to human diseases. And because they were short handed, the woman had volunteered to do a double, paired with typical insomnia and here she was. Exhausted and in desperate need of sleep, but unable to rest her mind.
“ A...while... ” Came the hesitant response to the man she loved, lids came to a close over tiger eyes, allotted the darkness to overtake her vision as muscles somewhat relaxed. “ I’ll be okay, Kem. Just need some coffee... ” Skylar could sleep later, but not now, not while people still depended on her.
