PAINTSVILLE, KY, ADOPTABLE DOG
General Info: Bodhi arrived 11-18-22. He has been waiting a long time. He is 4 years old, neutered, and weighs 50lbs. He has a short, sleek coat and long legs.
Behavior & Training: Bodhi is silly, playful, and loving. We use food, affection, and praise to motivate him. Bodhi would not respond well to verbal correction, physical correction, negative reinforcement, leash popping, etc. He needs patient and consistent parents. He knows several basic commands, including Sit, Down (all 4 paws on the floor), Come, In, Out, Shake, and even Fix Your Leg when he has the leash or long line hooked around his leg. He is good on car rides and at the vet. He needs to be on a leash or in a supervised, fenced-in area. Tethering would not be appropriate for him; however, he enjoys walking on a long line.
Compatibility: Bodhi displays friendly and non-confrontational behavior when he meets other dogs. He wants to play! He is good with cats and kids, too.

ADDITIONALLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Is he still available?
Yes, I will update this page when Bodhi is adopted or goes to a rescue.
Was he found as a stray?
Yes, Bodhi was a community dog in Van Lear, Kentucky. Donnie's boss at the time was feeding him, and asked us to take him.
Is he crate trained and housebroken?
Yes, he is. He understands "in" and "out" commands and is used to airline crates and wire kennels. He sleeps in his kennel at night (or my bed) and hangs out in there when I'm away from home, too. He walks before 10am every morning and after 10pm at night. We don't go more than 4 hours 30 minutes between walks during an average day.
Why does he need a fence?
Bodhi thinks the world is his yard.
Is he with a foster or in the shelter?
He lives at my home, and everything is provided by me. I want to find him an adoptive home or a reputable rescue that can make that happen, as I have so few resources.
What are his bad habits?
Bodhi needs to be supervised in a fenced-in area or kept on a leash, as he doesn't understand boundaries yet. I believe this difficulty comes from being on his own as a "community dog" for his first year of life, when he had to wander to find generous people to feed him.
Where can I see him?
Bodhi would love to meet you at Paintsville Recreation Center in Paintsville, KY, or at the Archer Park dog park in Prestonsburg, KY. If you'd prefer to take a stroll with him on a leash or long line, we can visit the beautiful Paintsville Lake State Park. If you need some wiggle room or have particular preferences, I am happy to make accommodations.
Can his adoption fee be waived?
Yes! My top priority is getting this fine guy into a nice home. The adoption fee is WAIVED for prospective adopters with good vet references. He is available for trial adoption, and of course, if it doesn't work out, he is welcome to come back to me.
E-mail me about Bodhi.
