The Videogame series Fallout is a post-apocalyptic which is set in an alternate timeline in the United States which divulges from WW2 in our history. This alternative world is very much stuck in 1950's cold war paranoia and the aesthetics right through the 21st century, thus the technology in the world is bizarre in contrast to the retro feel of the clothing, vehicles and music and art deco architecture of the ruined buildings. The advanced weaponry that the player can use include energy weapons much like laser guns which emit a deadly beam, also advanced robotics in which the player can use or fight.
Fallout draws from 1950's pulp magazines and sci-fi which hold a atomic age ideal which all goes wrong in the events of the game. The entire game is very retro-futuristic with the 1950's inspired clothes and such while the weapons being of a futuristic feel.
The world has become a wasteland in which the player must fight their way through to survive the creatures that were created due to the nuclear fallout and radiation as a result the player has to combat the high chances of being subjected to radiation also if the player can become addicted to various drugs/alcohol which will effect the health of the player leaving them somewhat vulnerable if they have not used in awhile.
The general feel of the series is what draws me to it, it's unique with it's retro-futuristic theme. And the storyline in which the player must make the choices that will determine the outcome of the game. The factions they side with and general karma decides whether a companion will follow you or not with the exception of Dogmeat whom will follow the player no matter what their moral standing is. The first instance of this extreme moral choice is brought in the form of Megaton in which the player has the choice to detonate or disarm the bomb that rests in the middle of the town.
The landscape throughout the game despite being a wasteland is somewhat beautiful and yet very dangerous to cross alone. The sheer lack of greenery make the player yearn for some sort of shrubbery and when/if the character reaches Oasis which small settlement surrounded by steep cliffs inside the settlement is full off trees and plants also birds can be heard singing once inside. This place feels very sacred due to the bleak landscape outside it.
