RANT AHEAD TW ANIMAL ATTACK TW ANIMAL INJURY
So I’m on holiday and my dog is with me, we were sitting at an outdoor eating area. She is a nervous but very friendly puppy. She goes up to everyone if she can, and especially if they are cooing at her. She is a Maltese terrier lhasa apso cross, so she is small and fluffy.
These 4 older people are sitting eating and are cooing and awwing at her and encouraging her over, so, I let her go over (shes on her lead). They are friendly and nice, going on about how cute she is, its all nice.
Then their dog comes out from under their table. A beautiful border collie. And I’m like ok nice, a new friend. None of them make any mention to be careful or keep Rosie away, they just let me let her go up to this other dog.
The dog is acting calm, and Rosie goes right up to sniff at his nose, she jumps up to start playing, and he lunges. Grabs her head in his jaws. And starts shaking. Rosie yelps loudly.
I scream and pull her back while the old owner gently pulls at the other dogs lead to bring him back.
I look Rosie over and luckily there are no cuts or visible injuries, she is just very shaken up by what happened and is cowering. One of the old ladies asks how she is, and then mentions that their dog was bitten by a small dog when he was a puppy and so doesnt like and sometimes goes for small dogs.
I was in such shock I left to go find the rest of the family.
I’m just here now thinking, why the hell didnt they say anything? Why did they let their dog go up to Rosie? Why didnt they warn me? I would have kept Rosie away if i knew there was a risk. Im just here looking at her and shes been sullen all evening, not her bouncy self at all.
Please if you know your pet has issues with agression, take the propper precautions. I was lucky Rosie was unhurt, but it could have been so much worse.
