Restaurant RED Review
This September my boyfriend and I turned 4 and we wanted to celebrate with a nice meal (which is generally what we do when celebrations are in order, or even when they aren’t) Bottom line we love food and we love to pamper ourselves (aka, not cooking). So This year we decided to try restaurant Red which had been on the top of our list for a while now and we certainly weren’t disappointed. My boyfriend who is the toughest crowd EVER even dared to say it was his favorite restaurant in Amsterdam so far. So you know it’s good. Also it was a Monday night yet all tables were full, just saying…
In general it’s just a lovely small restaurant that still feels like it’s spacious thanks to the many large mirrors aligning the walls. The bold green color on the walls mixed with soft tones of pink gives it a very chique modern yet classic look. Through the big windows you look out on the beautiful Dutch canal houses.
The menu is quite simple; they either serve lobster, tournedos or both in a surf and turf. All of which come with fries and salad. We started our dinner with some whole wheat bread with olive oil and a bottle of what was the best red wine I had tasted in a while, fruity and very velvety smooth. We then moved on to lobster and the surf and turf for the main. Which well, can only be described as mouthwatering. Both the lobster and meat were very flavorful and tender. I finished off this great meal with the grand dessert, which is a surprise from the chef. Tree lovely little tarts with flavors of raspberry, apricot and chocolate pecan, simply divine.
The staff was very friendly and never stopped smiling. The service was fast, attentive but subtle. It was one of those rare restaurant meals where you feel 100% satisfied, perfectly full but not stuffed, and you enjoy a kind of happy high feeling for the rest of the evening.
