‘i can’t lose you.’
I will return to you, I promise.
武神◈ - He turned, slowly - broad shoulders slumped slightly as silent words left her quivering lips. For once, she had display a hint of fragility for Angela was always such a confident individual. The shimmering image of her poised back seemed to always surface within the back of his mind, after all - he had spent a long time walking behind her, admiring and protecting. But what good was he if his own mind was not intact? What good was he if he doubted himself?
The fear of ‘malfunctioning’, the thought of losing control of his very own body. He did not want to cause more harm, he did not want to be a burden once again - to the organisation and to her. After many months of treatment and sessions, he…he was still unsure. Unsure of what? Many things. Too many that it seemed to clog up his conscience every single day. His existence, his role in this place - his identity. Mind over matter, they say - Genji kept telling himself that, every single night before he slept and after every single mission he had done.
The man still could not bear to look at his own reflections, still could not bear to run his fingers along his tattered skin. Scars were the memories of war, the memories that one should be proud of - but he was not, quite the opposite, in fact.
And as the words of hers seep in, he took a deep and long breath before tipping his head downwards to face the barren tiles. It would be better this way, better for the both of them, he thought. Yet, why? Why did his heart feel like it had been shattered to pieces by the thought of him leaving her behind? He could only imagine that she felt the same but that was too good to be true. The light melody emitted from his armor as Genji’s metallic digits retreated into tight fists. The last thing he wanted was to see tears and to hear the sadness in her voice but this was a decision that he had worked so hard to decide on. The man angled his head to the right, so that his glowing visor would come into vision but his gaze - it was not on her at all. He could not afford to face her, he was afraid that he would give in to his emotions. Though tears could not be seen, his voice would reveal everything easily.
“ Dr. Ziegler,“ He paused, “No —- Angela.”
Like a whisper, he called for her, for her attention and for her trust. It was hard on her already, the fact that he was leaving Overwatch. But he wanted to grant her another promise, among the many promises that he had made sure to keep.
“Will you….wait for me?”
His return, was something that he would make sure of.
