Seeing beyond what you can perceive, I have embarked on a new journey for the next 16 weeks and it’s a solo adventure. This journey has a lot of learning, growing and becoming. As I glare past the comments I hear on the daily how small towns have nothing to offer, I hope to change that perspective. It is easy to get caught in the city norms of socializing activities but when was the last time you just looked at the trees? the colors around? the houses that are adorned? the messages that are represented? When was the last time, you just walked through and just let the spirit speak to you through everything around you? His whisper is everywhere His everlasting hope follows you He comforts you with his peace Embrace the journey, He has gone before you and he is with you. As an extrovert who wants to share and travel with people, it is totally a challenge to embrace solo moments. The peacemaker, The day we got into Brunswick, Georgia; I rushed out of my crew quarters heading down to the first deck to start my shift. I couldn’t get make my way past the door as I marveled at the beauty of this ancient glory docked right next to us. Her name is peacemaker, she hails from Brazil and she is owned by “the twelve tribes”. The wild thing about this story is I am friends with this community of people that live across the United States and other parts of the world. I have the opportunity to visit them in Chattanooga, Colorado Springs, California and now in Georgia. After my shift, I raced to the yellow deli, the music beckoned me and the smiles reminded that I was back in a place where I have learned a lot at, especially about living in community. I was greeted by Simha, this vibrant and beautiful African American sister. She shared how she has been part of the community and I shared my past interactions as well. As I sipped on my coffee, she started handing me hummus and pita chips, spinach pie, dessert to take with me on the journey. I was just baffled at the constant kindness that i have received from the people that I meet at the deli. While I was busy connecting, I had realized that it was time for me to get back to my ship to start work. Simha stopped me and asked a friend visiting from Tennessee if she would be able to give me a ride to where the marina was and she did. It’s wild how I started my day seeing the peacemaker and ended up in the yellow deli that day only find out that they owned the beauty docked next to me. However small a town is, you never know who you will meet or what stories you will be a part of. The holiday season can be daunting, With gifts to give and to receive, With plans to make and to refuse, With people to celebrate or to be alone, To make food or to eat out. All these thoughts that can be exciting and overwhelming. My newest found tradition of the year is being outdoors for the holidays. I had the honor to be in Utah for thanksgiving with some of my closest friends @pillarshaker, @santiago_martinez21 and Helen hiking Angel’s landing and hiking Iron Mountain with my African queen @holistic_bamby for Christmas! The union with people and nature and creation and the divine creator himself is ever so humbling and exciting. It is full of challenges, endorphin highs completed filled with wonder and awe of Yahweh who breathes the breadth into us. The beauty in the breadth we breathe that sustains us to climb mountains and valleys!
