Autumn Harvest
Hampshire Carp Hatcheries was 25 years old as a business in 2010. Our farm Bowlake fish farm was 20 years old and thus this year we have started our 21st autumn harvest.
It is always an exciting time as one is never sure how well the stock has performed. We have a pretty clear idea how the fish are doing as we frequently sample for health checks and to adjust feeding rations. The trouble with fish is that they are sneaky and often the bigger fish keep out of the way of the sample net, or conversely the small ones are pushed out of the way by the feeders making it difficult to determine the size ratio.
So the only true test is to harvest the pond completely by netting and draining, only then will we get a true number of what we have for sale.
