Amidst the tumult of the Second World War, architect Erik Bryggman designed a peaceful cemetery chapel in Turku, in which death is encountered with respect and gentleness. It has become a landmark of Finnish architecture.

Valparaiso Chapel 2016 & 1979 - April 2016 http://michael-massa-micon.tumblr.com Nearly forty years ago, I stopped at Valpo to take a picture of Resurrection Chapel. I wanted to go back with a modern camera and take more images, so we stopped as we were driving west through Indiana. The major difference between to the two images is that in 1979 it was a bright, sunny day. In 2016 it was dismally cloudy. That difference in exterior lighting changes the overall tone of the image. There is also a slight change in the way that the corpus (the Christ figure) is draped for Easter season. I think I prefer the newer image in that regard as it more emphasizes the resurrection. The draping in 1979 more closely resembled a king’s robe, which has an entirely different emphasis. MWM
