The two seemed to have left the house. It was definitely something he expected, and not something he spoke up against. Even if he did, Kiritsugu doubt it would have changed anything. He stays in his room for another moment, listening to the silence of the house before leaving his room.
The man’s footsteps were light, it was probably a good day. It was like taking a short walk, while still being inside the safety of the abode. He reaches a side of the residence that he doesn’t visit often, and in front of a door that hid a room lent out to one of their guests.
Guest was probably not the right term for her, and fiance was going a bit too far.
Tohsaka Rin.
He wasn’t sure how it happened, but Shirou wasn’t the young child he remembered, and in the next breath, he had introduced his girlfriend. A Tohsaka, of all people.
Pushing into the room, Kiritsugu quietly pulled out a box the length of his palm, and a bit longer out from his sleeve. He had really gotten used to putting things in there.
He looked around the room briefly, a matter of habit to ensure his own safety before he sets the box down onto the work desk.
It certainly looks like she had settled in well.
Abstaining from looking at anything more, Kiritsugu turned and stepped out from the room, closing the door after himself, returning to his room.
The box came without a note - if anything, fingerprints did remain if forensics were to come into play. Inside it was well cushioned gems.
Or jewels, as some would call them.
Two rubies on the right and left, and a slightly larger amethyst in the middle.
What the Tohsaka magus lineage does and uses for protection, for battle was something Kiritsugu had studied once upon a time. Of course, he didn’t study it in a way that would allow him the skills, but only to know what they were capable of.
Another thing that was common sense would be how expensive these things were - especially if the stones were to be expended after just one use.
It wasn’t a gift, it wasn’t wrapped well enough for that. Nor was it a peace offering, anyone trying to take his son away would not relate to the word ‘peace’ in Kiritsugu’s mind.
It was merely a thank-you, for that day when nobody else was around and the Tohsaka magus had been around to calmly analyze and talk Kiritsugu through his rough time.
Though coughing up blood wasn’t anything too different than a normal day for the man, the fact that he had company made it different.
The outing had done both Rin and Shirou good. Things had been so crazy recently that taking time for themselves had become something of a rarity. The night had dragged on for quite a long time, neither quite wanting it to end.
When they had returned to the Emiya household Rin had almost followed Shirou back to his room - she really hadn’t wanted to leave him - but had reluctantly returned to her own bed instead. She still wasn’t used to sharing a bed, which made the amount of sleep she got minimal at best. If she wasn’t so exhausted it might be worth it, but right now she could tell she desperately needed the sleep.
It wasn’t until after Rin had undressed that she noticed the box on the table. She frowned a little. She didn’t recognize it but it couldn’t have been left here by just anyone. She had helped upgrade the Emiya wards in the years following the Grail War. No one outside of the regular residents should be able to get into her room.
The young woman took hold of the box, made a quick inspection of it - no traps - before opening it. Her eyes widened as she saw what lay within the box. Her fingers gently picked up the gem on the right, her eyes peering into its depths, looking at the quality.
Beautiful. And mysterious. Who could possibly have left them here?
It couldn’t have been Sakura. Her sister’s gifts never had anything to do with magecraft. Treats, warm clothing, trinkets - yes. Gems? Absolutely not. And Shirou knew better than to buy gems; she preferred to select them herself in order to make sure they would have the particular qualities she needed for her current projects. Fujimura-sensei obviously was out.
That left one possible person.
Rin humphed. She didn’t know why the elder Emiya had felt the need to leave her such a gift, much less one so expensive, but it wouldn’t do at all. She hated being in people’s debt. Meaning she would have to use the stones for Kiritsugu’s benefit… or his son’s. If it was one thing the pair could see eye to eye on, it was taking care of Shirou.
Amethyst was useful in protecting from spiritual attacks and ruby helped impart energy. Both would make excellent anchors for additional wards around the Emiya household. Rin reached for her syringe, sleep momentarily forgotten. She still had enough left in her to charge them with a bit of prana. It would take time, but she would be able to make a rather nice set of wards from these.
Protecting this place would be a fitting use for these gifts.
retiredhero replied to your post:
“Somewhere in the courtyard. And nobody in particular, I thought it’d be nice to look at fishes from where I usually sit, feed them and watch them swim around.”
A sigh escapes me. That’s not a small amount of landscaping work. Hiring a contractor might be easier, but we’d probably get scammed on the price. Maybe I’ll go talk to old man Fujimura about renovating the house.
“If you’re really interested, I’ll look into it.”
It might not be bad to have a project that doesn’t involve magic in some capacity.

“.. Ha. This must be some sort of joke. A cruel farce unlike any other. Why did it have to be you that I appeared before?”

"Damn Touko. First she forces me to accompany her to a weird city, and then she ditches me." Was Shiki's first response after she was given 'free time' while the Magus, Aozaki Touko would attend her own business. They had arrived in the city of Fuyuki, on Touko's request. Shiki's job was to be Touko's bodyguard. However, it seemed Touko only needed Shiki during the 'traveling part' and had left her to herself soon after they entered the city. Supposedly Shiki's presence would needlessly complicate things if she followed Touko to where she was going.
Shiki wandered the business district searching for a place to rest, or get something to eat. The city wasn't huge thankfully, so she eventually got her way to the market, grabbed something from there and walked towards a park she had spotted on her way there. Everything seemed to be going fairly well when..
"Tsk." Shiki's obvious displeasure escaped her mouth. She had planned to enjoy her food all alone in the park, but it seemed someone else was now there. It was an old man, and he was using the bench Shiki had planned to sit to. It would be normal to just go, sit next to him and ignore him while enjoying her meal, but he was probably returning from the supermarket or something, because he was surrounded by many many bags full of stuff. There was no space for anyone to sit there. Shiki rested her back on a tree and stared at the old man with obvious disdain, while munching her food. Simply put she was being a kid.
