it really feels like a 'the people this affects directly have different opinions on it, so i'll take the one i agree with and use it to bludgeon other outsiders into submission' sort of thing tbh.

yeah. I'll admit I've been guilty of that in the past too.

It would be interesting to do some research someday and root up all the discussion on magical girls and gender from Japan I can find (and am able to read)- whether from creators, fans, whatnot- it would definitely be cool to compile the views of a lot of different people who are directly affected so they could all be considered.
