Overall, the premise of this was great. But this book just didn't do it for me, unfortunately.

While Jake and Liz had some great smexy times, I felt like their chemistry was mostly wrapped up in said smexy times. Like outside of that, they were okay, but I didn't quite buy a connection that we were supposed to root for. Although I will admit that maybe I missed some stuff because I started skimming, but still.

I did like Jake trying to figure a way out of this, and I did feel like Tanner was unreasonably harsh. Not denying he had a legitimate reason to be upset, but taking it out on Jake, who was just as blindsided was unfair. And then when he figured out what was going on with Liz and Jake, and Tanner had no right to step in like that.

This book seems like it needed another editing pass or three. There was a lot of random spaces, punctuation was missing and/or added and sometimes it seemed like words were missing too. The paragraphs also were basically running together and honestly the book physically difficult to read. Which is a big part of why I started skimming. I might give this a shot when it physically releases, but I don't know.

This book releases January 6, 2026.

We met Shanti and Sanyu in Cole’s previous romance novel A Prince on Paper and this book tells the story of how they go from tension-filled arranged marriage to love in the midst of repairing a country suffering the after-effects of colonialism. It is amazing, I loved it, and once again an AMAZING cover.) Thanks to @williammorrowbooks and @avonbooks 😘😘 for the review copies Then I got a package from @harper_wave with a finished copy of @marisaacocella The Big She-Bang. I had tried to read a digital galley- because I like Marisa’s work - only to find that the digital file was really borked. Harper Wave was kind enough to send me this copy when I let them know about the digital galley file. I sat down and read this feminist retelling of strong women in original myths - centered a lot around Church history but other religions and mythologies around the world - in one go. And that says a lot in a month where my ability to concentrate on reading has gone on the fritz. The colors used in the graphics are so fun and gorgeous. A little #bookmail this week from @harpercollins imprints @williammorrowbooks and @avonbooks A Duchess a Day is the first entry in @charismichaels new historical romance series that gives stories to minor characters from fairy tales. This one takes on The Huntsman from Snow White. (And another pretty yellow dress cover from Avon this year 💛💛) Written in the Stars is @a.m.bellefleur Avon debut - this is a lovely f/f contemporary romance between an actuary (Darcy) and an astrologer (Elle). Their blind date goes wrong but they’re forced to fake-date to avoid their relatives (fake dating ftw!). Bonus points for a very light Pride and Prejudice retelling. Fossil Men by Kermit Pattison is about the discovery and 15-year study of “Ardi”, the oldest known human skeleton. It’s a chunkster 😬😬 so I may have totally borked my reading plans but once upon a time I wanted to be a paleontologist- until I found out you have to dig the skeletons out of the ground in remote areas of the world and I a) don’t like dirt and b) don’t like camping - so it scratches an itch little Melissa still has in a way.
