Somehow, this PB forms issue (being so complicated) is causing Before the messages start coming telling me to goīuy VB, I know there are alternatives like EZ GUI but I really wish PB had forms like VB 6ĭoes forms. You know.I am "stuck" when it comes to PB Forms.

These are my 2 cents since they replied with inacurate (obsolete?) remarks. While using DDT with the windows commands gives you a more obvious way to program. PureBasic does not let you use ordinary windowstyles easily, so you are depending on what the author of purebasic will let you do. I'm equally in the position to say that in fact these controls have nmore limits due their implementation than the windows controls. The controls they mention are mostly derived from ordinary windows controls. The remark over there that PowerBASIC is only able to use plain SDK is a bit obsolete. Just wanted to say the PB/WIN has built-in commands to make windows too. I noticed this same question on the PureBasic site. please don't lock this thread, even if their are other topics on this matter, I really want the opinions of this forum for my specific situation. Also, is the price any indication of performance? Another question is about the syntax, since I am coming from VB I'm hoping to pick up either language quickly since they are both based on BASIC, and I was wondering which syntax is easier to convert to from VB (in terms of learning the new language)? And, in your opinions, what syntax is easier (PureBasic's or PowerBasic's)? I plan on posting this on both forums, so if any of you browse both, yes its me. Price is not a factor in the decision, although I gotta say you can't beat under 100$ and lifetime updates. I heard a couple people (even on PureBasic's forums) say that for now, PowerBasic is better for apps that need that last bit of speed, and are a little more rock solid (which really persuades me as it needs to be a server that can handle all the people in a speedy fashion, while still not locking up every hour). However I know that some of the most important programs are going to be servers, that need to be able to handle many many requests simultaneously (cant give a number, as I dont know how big the program will be). I plan on using which ever compiler I decide to make a variety of programs (which is why PureBasic seems interesting, because if both compilers are the same in performance yet PureBasic is including gaming functions built in.). I'll tell you some background about what I want to do with the compiler so hopefully in addition to facts you can give me an unbiased opinion on the right compiler for me, but first off is PureBasic / PowerBasic (apparently they are very similar, which is why im having difficulty deciding) faster than delphi (I heard it was favorably comparable to C++, and C++ is faster than delphi)? Currently I work with VB and I plan on buying either PureBasic or PowerBasic. Ok, I'm really sorry if this causes a flame war but I really wanted all of your opinions.

For example, when the book was slightly delayed because of a printing error those who had pre-ordered were compensated with some free software. Don't worry about this, since Idigicon show a clear commitment to customer service. As far as I can see, it isn't possible to order it from Amazon. Potential purchasers may be put off that the book is only available from Idigicon direct. PureBasic's GUI libraries are only mentioned in passing. It is also a shame that only a small subset of the language is introduced. Bolding the keywords, putting the comments in a lighter shade, that type of thing. A little extra formatting could have made the examples much easier to read. There are a few ways the book could be improved. It also includes Krylar's useful KNet-Lib and K-2D map maker and some demos of Idigicon's other products.

The accompanying CD includes a demo version of PureBasic and the full code for examples and the "Migz Callo" game. Any experienced programmer who is new to writing games will benefit from reading this section. This final section is the most practical, with lots of code listings and screen shots. Important concepts such as tile mapping, screen scrolling, z-ordering and computer character behaviour are then discussed. The Game Design for the demo gives a valuable insight into the activites that must preceed the writing of any code. Section 3 goes beyond just the language, and discusses the other important aspects of game design. I found the chapters on collission detection and ensuring consistant timing to be excellent and personally beneficial. Again, 'Just Enough Theory' is introduced to help the understanding. I found Section 2 far more beneficial because I haven't done much with the game libraries. The typical pitfalls encountered by the newbie programmer are all dealt with before they can cause any problems. The style of code is recognisable as the common style adopted by the majority of forum posters. Arrays and Structures, and the subtle distinctions regarding Arrays within Structures, are given excellent coverage. Important PureBasic specifics are also covered well. The concepts are then illustrated with well commented code examples. These sections are short enough so that the experienced programmer can skim over and appreciate the refresher but complete enough to give the newcomer the necessary knowledge. In the first few chapters the reader is introduced to binary, strings, bitmapping, cartesian co-ordinates and other important fundamentals. Krylar has a great 'Just Enough Theory' approach that quickly introduces the concepts needed to understand the code. The first section is an excellent introduction to the PureBasic language, which would be suitable to those entirely new to programming. The book is divided into 3 sections: introducing first PureBasic, then the game specific libraries and finally the example game project "Migz Callo: Lazer Blazer". "Programming 2D Scrolling Games" is a pure PureBasic book that introduces the language, its features, its common idioms and its typical gotchas. I'm pleased to say that my fears were misfounded. I've seen this happen before, where it looks like all they did was a quick search and replace and a crude debugging of the examples. When Krylar announced that he was writing the book for PureBasic my main concern was that this would be a quick 'port' of his existing BlitzBasic book.
