bottom in the sheets, top on the streets
have you ever shopped for high quality streetwear... re-inc's line is not "over-priced." it's literally the same as other streetwear of its kind. i don't see what people can't understand about this
All of these brands are out here to make a profit. The difference is re-inc is using their profits to promote social justice (after they make their money).
With them being such a small company, they almost have to overcharge a bunch to be successful. They aren’t out here spending $100 to make one hoodie and then charging $125 for it. They’re probably making $40-$60 worth of profit per hoodie. You can at least surmise they are using these profits to pay a fair wage. I’m not trying to say this is bad thing - just making the point that they are making huge profits (regardless of where they using them). There is no denying they could probably sell more of the same clothing items and charge less. That’s just not their business model, and that’s fine. It’s still a huge profit margin though!
To answer your question, yes, I have seen what street wear brands charge. And, yes, I know how they work - they pander to rich white people. No, I do not have to watch re make enormous profits and sit in silence hoping my assumption about the entirety of the brand is correct. They promote themselves as a company reimagining their market. I’m not apologizing for having different expectations as a result.
The sooner we acknowledge that re-inc is using their names and connections to establish a brand, the better. I’m not trying to be an asshole. I’m just trying to be real. I still love these women.
Btw - the prices for the RWB line are much better than the shirt and cropped tee. They are learning and growing. Good to see. Again, though, still an enormous profit margin.
Here’s a great discussion on re from a week or so ago
$125 for a t-shirt y’all
It’s totally reasonable to point out that using grandiose language for months, then releasing clothes which exclude classism from social justice doesn’t quite add up. If Re is gonna be a big-time company, they had to be prepared to take their lumps as well.
You can’t hype for months then expect everyone to be happy when the prices are what they are. Social justice ain’t about being perfect - it’s about growth. And most of the time growth isn’t pretty. Just ride the wave and enjoy the clothes.
That's exactly what I was thinking about the price but wasn't able to put into words, thank you
You are very welcome
Someone needs to take the social media away from the re gals (or whoever is advising them). It’s getting a little cringe - especially when you don’t know what it is. They are trying too hard and doing too much to promote a product/service that is not ready to be promoted or even introduced.
