A step too far

Scott moved through the hazy room. Was this a fog machine? Tobacco smoke? Weed? Or something even worse? He could barely see a few feet with the dim, shifting lights. Music thumped along, the deafening roar muted by efforts to keep the VIP rooms a private, luxury experience. But Scott was looking for one room in particular. A meeting had been scheduled with a less-than-savory character. He’d been told to watch out for the guy. He was a last-ditch effort. But Scott was desperate. He needed whatever help he could get. Things had gone too far.
The Ruby Raven. That was where he was told to be. He’d been pointed in this direction. And sure enough, he found a doorway blocked by curtains depicting a red bird. This had to be it. The alpha built up his nerve before pushing through the curtains and coming face-to-face with the man sitting on the other side of the table.
“Ryker? I was told you were the man to come to when you needed to get things done.” Scott started, pulling out a small bundle of hundred dollar bills and sliding them towards the other to show that he was serious.
