Rather You Than Me | Rick Ross
Lyrically sound, Rick Ross’s “Rather You Than Me” is one of his best releases to date. His deep, smooth voice has always been a fan favorite, but adding content and a hint of sophistication, Ross returned to the rap game with keen purpose. While he mentions Goldman Sachs and Santorini Greece every two bars, I was impressed with his wordplay and flow. “Santorini Greece”, “Idols Become Rivals”, and “Scientology” showcased his growth lyrically beautifully, while Ross delivers plenty of heat with “Trap Trap Trap”, “Dead Presidents”, and “Lamborghini Doors”, if you still love the trap music he is known for, like myself. Unfortunately, Memphis’ favorite trapper, Yo Gotti, was the only highlight of Ross’s “Summer Seventeen”, as the annoyingly, repetitive chorus reeked of lack of creativity. Repetition is played. I personally loved two collaborations on the project, “I Think She Like Me” feat. Ty Dolla $ign and “Maybach Music V” feat. Dej Loaf. Shoutout to Dej Loaf for holding her own against the boss and Ty Dolla $ign for his raspy vocals we all seem to enjoy. Overall, kudos to Rick Ross for continuing the art of storytelling that is the epitome of Maybach Music.
