Gladiator 2 - Thumbs Down.
A sequel to a movie which didn't need one because the original was complete in itself, ending with a conclusion that satisfied both the requirements of storytelling and audience expectations.
"Casablanca", "A Knight's Tale", "Jaws", "The Hunt for Red October", "Highlander", "Spartacus", "Excalibur", etcetera, etcetera, also didn't need sequels. Despite that, a couple got them. The poor reputation of those sequels proves the point.
@dduane and I haven't seen G-2, and don't intend to see it. Far too many reviews say the same thing - rather than a sequel it's a remake, and a bad one. We'll see it when it turns up on TV, or maybe not even then.
(ETA: i see it's no longer in Irish cinemas anyway, which makes things simpler...)
With a TV, there's always the channel selector * or even the DVD / Blu-Ray player. With a cinema ticket, you're stuck. Even if you leave, they've got your money.
We've got the original (or Proper) "Gladiator" on DVD, we've got a big-screen TV, we've a reliable sound system, and a kitchen for making munchies and chilling beer or wine just ten steps away.
That's entirely sufficient for a good night in.
* There's also a Pause button, because there are occasions (see "beer" and "wine") when that Pause button can play quite an important role in the enjoyment of a film.
Just saying... ;->
