Politics is not the purpose of this blog, nor of the community that I moderate. But I feel very strongly that this must be said, especially since this is the only social media I actively engage with.
As a center-right individual, I have varying opinions about certain topics. I agree with the right on many occasions, but also agree with the left on others.
I am deeply appalled by the dehumanizing responses of both news outlets and social media toward Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Seeing the minimization, celebration, and even revelry of an innocent man’s death—a father and a husband’s death—who committed no crime but to speak up for what he believed in (regardless of how it would be received) has left me disgusted. I disagreed with Charlie on some topics because his standpoint was too extreme for me, but never, not once, did the thought of wanting him dead come into my mind.
I have seen extremism on either side of the coin. But it’s undeniable that the left has found joy and possibly even taken pleasure in violence surrounding political and social justice in recent years. I feel emboldened to speak out about my opinion on this topic in the light of this activist’s passing, as it may highlight a strong shift in the political climate as conservatives start standing up and speaking out—potentially around the world.
If you are among the people who actively celebrated Charlie’s death, or wish death upon others because you disagree with their perspective or just generally dislike them, please feel welcome to unfollow me. I was afraid of being ostracized in the past because of my opinions, but I could not care less about that anxiety after seeing how people are capable of behaving like savages in 2025. I appreciate everyone who has given me their time and interest through engaging with my posts about my practice and my journey, and I’ve enjoyed chatting with you through comments, DMs, and my community. Whether you choose to stay or leave, I wish you all well.
We are better than this. The violence. Must. STOP.
Again, this blog is purposefully meant to be politically separated. I specifically wanted to critique the behavior and display of morality (or lack thereof) from many individuals online following Charlie’s passing.
For those who might bring up the school shooting occurring at the same time of Charlie’s death, I am aware, and the deaths of innocents is tragic no matter how, when, or who it happens to. But no one will be making celebration posts about those who were injured at the school, or who died in previous school shootings. And if you do, or if you have, please reflect on your lack of humanity.
I have recently been distancing myself from social media and screens in general to reconnect with my practice, my passions and hobbies, and my daily routine. But in the event that I continue to post semi-regularly, the content will remain unpolitical and folk witchcraft-centered.
