Between Lima and Huancayo, central Peru

Beautiful, varied landscapes dot this route. It seemed like we went through the Grand Canyon, the Swiss Alps, the Canadian Rockies, and the British Columbia Fraser Canyon, all in one afternoon. There were trout farms along the river, hydroelectric projects, and the inevitable mining operations (complete with their well-established towns, as well as newly created ones).
