the digital clock on the studio wall was a glowing red ghost in the dimly lit hallway. 7:45 pm.

ryul leaned against the cool industrial brick, his jaw set in a hard line.he had been standing there for forty-five minutes.in his pocket,the two tickets for the indie film premiere,the one you had been talking about for three weeks.

they were supposed to meet at the entrance at 7:00 sharp.they were supposed to grab a quick coffee,talk about something other than choreography or chart rankings,and pretend, for just a few hours,that they were a normal couple.

but "normal" was a luxury they rarely afforded themselves.in the strange,nebulous space between "teammates" and "something more," every minute of stolen time was a currency. and right now,ryul felt like he was being robbed.

he checked his phone for the tenth time.no texts.no "running late" emojis.just a deafening silence from your end.

finally,the restlessness became too much.he pushed off the wall and headed toward the practice wing.he told himself he was just checking if you were okay,maybe you’d tripped, maybe you’d fainted from overwork.but as he drew closer to room 4, the sound of music wasn’t what met him.

It was a laugh.

your laugh was distinct,a bright, unrestrained sound that usually acted as his north star.but tonight,it felt like a serrated edge.

ryul stopped at the door,which was pushed slightly ajar.the overhead fluorescent lights were harsh,casting long shadows across the mirrors.inside,you weren’t practicing.you were sitting on the floor,your back against the mirror, clutching your water bottle as if it were the only thing keeping you upright from sheer exhaustion or amusement.

standing over you was woojin.

he was mid gesture,mimicking a particularly difficult transition from their new title track, but doing it with an exaggerated,goofy flair that had you doubled over.

"I’m telling you," woojin grinned,wiping sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. "If I do it like that on stage,the fans won't know if I'm dancing or having a localized seizure. It’s all about the intent, y/n."

"you looked like a literal flamingo,woojin!" you gasped, hitting his shin with your hand.

woojin laughed,reaching down and grabbing your hand to pull you up.he didn’t let go immediately.he kept his grip on your wrist, checking the fitness tracker on your arm.

“your heart rate is up,you should probably calm down before the movie” he said letting not looking up from the tracker.

"the movie," you whispered,your eyes widening. "wait, what time-"

"It’s late," ryul’s voice cut through the air like a blade.

both of you jumped.woojin let go of your wrist as if it had turned into live wire.ryul was framed in the doorway,his leather jacket on, his hands shoved deep into his pockets.he didn't look like a boyfriend waiting for a date,he looked like he was gonna punch woojin

"yul!oh my god," you scrambled for your phone, which was buried under a pile of discarded towels.when the screen lit up,your face went pale. "7:52? I-I thought it was barely 7:15. We got caught up on the bridge section,and then woojin started showing me these old trainee clips and-"

"I see what he was showing you," ryul interrupted.he finally looked at woojin.It wasn't a look of hatred,but one of cold,simmering territoriality. "the previews started twenty minutes ago.the theater is on the other side of the han."

woojin, usually the peacemaker,cleared his throat awkwardly.he could feel the static electricity in the room. "hey,man,my bad.I didn't realize you guys were on such a tight schedule.I was just trying to help her decompress after that four-hour block."

"she was supposed to decompress with me," ryul said,his voice dangerously low. "she doesn't need a teammate to tell her when to breathe.she needs to check her watch."

"ryul,stop," you said,your voice regaining some of its fire. "It’s not his fault.I lost track of time. don't take it out on him."

woojin held up his hands,backing toward the door. "I’ll leave you guys to it.see you at the dorms."

the door clicked shut.the silence that followed was heavy,filled with the hum of the air conditioning and the sound of your heavy breathing.you began stuffing your shoes into your gym bag,your movements jerky and defensive.

"I’m sorry, okay? I’m human.I got distracted," you snapped,not looking at him.

"distracted?" ryul walked into the room,the souls of his shoes echoing against the wood floor. "we’ve had these tickets for three weeks, y/n.I’ve been waiting in that hallway for forty-five minutes.I heard you laughing ten minutes ago.you weren't 'practicing.' you were flirting."

you dropped your bag with a heavy thud.you whipped around,your eyes flashing. "flirting? are you serious? woojin is like a brother to me. we were blowing off steam because this comeback is killing us both.since when is having a conversation with a teammate a betrayal?"

"It’s a betrayal of my time," ryul countered, stepping into your space. "It’s about the fact that you’d rather stay in this sweat-stained room laughing at woojin’s jokes than show up for the one thing we planned this month.do you have any idea how hard it is to maintain... whatever this is... when you treat me like an afterthought?"

"I don't treat you like an afterthought!"

"then what do you call this?" ryul gestured to the empty room. "I’m standing there like a fool while you’re in here getting 'carried away.' It’s always something,y/n.a longer vocal session,a staff meeting,or woojin needing a dance partner.If you don't want to be in a relationship,just say it.don't make me wait in hallways for a ghost."

you felt a lump form in your throat.part of it was guilt,but the rest was pure,unadulterated frustration. "you think you’re the only one who finds this hard? every time I look at you in practice,I have to pretend I’m not thinking about the night before.I’m exhausted,ryul.and yeah,woojin made me laugh.he made me feel like I wasn't just a machine for a second.Is that such a crime?"

"the crime is that you didn't think to include me in that," ryul said, his voice cracking for the first time.the jealousy wasn't just about woojin,it was about the ease they had. "you give them the fun y/n.the light y/n.I get the tired version. I get the version that’s too busy to check her phone.I get the 'situationship' version that hides behind excuses."

you reached out to touch his arm,but he flinched away.the rejection stung more than the words.

"I’m not an option you pick when the room is empty,y/n" ryul said,turning toward the door.

"where are you going?" you called out,your voice small. "the movie is already started, we can still-"

"go home," ryul said,not looking back. "I'm going for a walk.I think we both need to decide if we're actually in this,or if you're just waiting for someone who makes it feel less like work."

he stepped out,leaving the door wide open. you stood in the center of the fluorescent light, the silence of the studio feeling colder than it ever had before.you looked at your phone,8:05 pm.the night was ruined,and for the first time, you weren’t sure if a simple "sorry" would ever be enough to fix the crack he’d left behind.

the dorm was unnervingly quiet when you finally walked in.It was past midnight,and the adrenaline of your argument had soured into a heavy,aching fatigue.you saw ryul’s shoes by the door,kicked off haphazardly,a sign of the same restless energy he’d left the studio with. you didn't go to your room.Instead,you sat on the balcony,the city lights of seoul blurred by a light mist,waiting for the courage to knock on his door.

you didn't have to.the sliding glass door creaked open,and ryul stepped out,draped in an oversized hoodie.he didn't look at you at first,opting to lean his elbows on the railing, staring out at the horizon.

"I didn't go to the movie," he said quietly.his voice was no longer sharp,it was just tired.

"I know," you whispered,your fingers tracing the hem of your sweater. "I stayed in the practice room for an hour.just... thinking."

you stood up and moved to the railing,leaving a careful foot of space between them. "ryul, you were right.and I’m not saying that just to end the fight.I’ve been using the 'work' excuse as a shield because being with you feels so high stakes.If I mess up a dance,I can fix it. If I mess this up,if I lose you,I don't know what I'd do.so I leaned into the easy stuff.the jokes with the guys, the extra hours. It’s safer than facing how much I actually need you."

ryul finally turned his head.the moonlight caught the exhaustion in his eyes,but the coldness from earlier had thawed. "It didn't feel safe to me,y/n.It felt like I was being phased out."

"you could never be phased out," you said,your voice trembling.you reached out,tentatively covering his hand with yours.this time,he didn't flinch. "woojin is a friend, but he’s not the person I want to tell my secrets to.he’s not the person I want to come home to.I’m sorry I made you feel like an afterthought.I’m sorry I let the time slip away."

ryul sighed,a long breath that seemed to carry the weight of the entire evening out of his lungs.he turned his hand over,interlacing his fingers with yours,his grip tight,almost desperate.

"I don't want to be the guy who gets jealous of his own teammates," he admitted,pulling you closer until your forehead rested against his shoulder. "but I’m selfish when it comes to you.I only get so much of your time.I hate sharing it when I already feel like I'm starving for it."

you leaned into him,the familiar scent of his cologne finally grounding you. "no more 'situationship' excuses.no more hiding behind the schedule.If we’re doing this, I’m all in."

ryul tilted your chin up,his thumb brushing over your cheek. "all in?"

"all in," you promised.

he leaned down,his kiss slow and lingering, a silent seal on a new understanding.the movie was long over,and the night was nearly gone, but as they stood there in the quiet of the balcony, the time finally belonged to them.

you just spent three grueling hours doing the same dance over and over again in the most stinky practice room you have ever been in,you’ve been in a fair share of them,and now you are heading to the studio you asked to borrow for practice.

a couple days back your mentor told you that in order to debut you needed to step up your game,claiming that you were falling behind but it’s not your fault you got stopped by lngshots manager in the hall telling you to keep away from louis and to move on now is it?

yup,he didn’t even try to sugarcoat it or anything,sure everyone and their grandma knew but no one ever said anything up until then.were you really gonna be a distraction and disturbance in his debut?well,he didn’t really word it that way, more of like a ‘hey,I'm sorry but you should really move on’ way, you know?

you and louis knew each other,even talked a couple of times,nothing too solid but it still somehow made you like him,i mean whats not to like he was kind,funny,close in age,had a beautiful voice,soft spoken he was just so likeable not to mention he can speak french-okay,let’s get back on track.

the halls of the company were quite,which is not unusual also given that it was pretty late at night and most normal people were probably fast asleep by now,you know what they say the wicked doesn’t sleep.you sighed reaching the studio you’d be sat in for another hour or two depending how much longer you’ll be able to keep your eyes open.

as you pushed the door open with your back your eyes were pointed down at your bag shuffling around to find your notebook,not realising there was a figure of a 6’2 french kid sitting on the chair.He lifted his head up from his phone hearing the door open shaking away a few strands of hair that were in falling in front of his view,you still didn’t notice him.

not until you were fully in the room the door shutting closed behind you did you notice the boy,eyes going wide as you froze in place,‘this can’t be happening’ well it can,and it just happened,you were standing in front of louis completely frozen not being able to move while he was expecting you to speak first raising his eyebrows at you while your coward self could say anything.

and just as you entered you turned around fully expecting to leave,oh well i guess no practice for you,but before you could even reach for the door you hear him speak “no,wait” he stopped you,his arm reaching towards you but not touching you, ”i’ll go instead,I finished what I,um, had to finish” he smiled at you while standing up grabbing his phone and headphones off the table.

you were melting,yup from one sentence that was purely on behalf of his kind nature ‘I think I'm in love with him’ you quickly shake your head and speak “no,really i’ll go,i mean if you really finished you wouldn’t be here right now”, did you just call your crush a liar to his face?,you quickly smack a hand over your forehead “not that i’m saying you’re lying ,or anything, it’s just-“

before you could continue rambling, your sentence was cut short by louis’s laugh,was he laughing at me? or with me?

“sorry…” you say smiling and looking down “i tend to ramble in awkward situations” you admit scratching the back of your head.

“nothing awkward about it,it’s kinda cute” he reassured you while pushing the chair under the table,he probably shouldn’t have said that cuz the second he did you were red as a tomato,thank god it was dark in that room it really saved you the embarrassment later on.

“i’ll head out,I hope your practice goes well” he stands there, hands in his pockets making eye contact while talking to you “huh,what?” you asked,your eyes widening as you finally gather the courage to look at him “your practice? that’s why you’re here right?” he raises his eyebrow just as confused as you are “oh,right,yeah thanks! you can go now!” you idiot,you thought.

“right” he says hands still in his pockets as he stares at you drawing his lips in a thin line swinging back and forth “soo,you’re gonna go?” you smile, saying for him to get a move on it so you can breathe normally,just then his eyes move next to you and you follow his line of sight.

you were standing in front of the door.

“right…” you say in a low tone,embarrassed as hell as you step to the side giving him space in this tiny studio as he nods grabbing on to the handle.this was the most you’ve ever talked to him you kinda wished he could have stayed maybe you could have talked a bit more—

nothing.

he pulls again.

it won’t budge “maybe it’s a push?” you asked,it’s definitely not a push,but he does it anyway nothing.

god this has to be the worst day of your life,you reach for the handle not even caring about louis’s hand already being there,that’s a lie,you were screaming internally from joy,you yank at the door,it won’t budge.

“well fuck” you say giving up,man that dance practice really tired you out now that you really think about it,you guys tried to open it for another solid 2 minutes,then spent another minute just staring at it like it might magically open from you guys staring at it intensely.

“we should call for help?” he suggested looking over at you,whose still staring at the door mind you,he furrowed his brows “no one is awake at this hour and,” you look down at your watch “probably won’t be for another 5 hours give or take” he sighs,sitting down on the couch in the corner.

you were still standing next to the door,not staring at it this time “you can sit down you know?” he said to you smiling,’ stop staring’ you thought “I know,i was just about to” , “mhm,right” he teased you.

“don’t tease me!” you acted frustrated,you weren’t,you did end up walking over and sitting on the other end of the couch.you two sat there for a bit in silence before ultimately louis spoke up.

“so,how have you been y/n?” he spoke, crossing his arms lazily leaning his head on the wall and the back of the couch.

the fuck,what the fuck,what the actually fuck,he knows your name,holy shit,is this a fever dream?,where are the cameras?

“you know my name?” you spoke acting all mysterious like you weren’t dying inside “well we’ve met before?,a couple times actually” he said looking over at you.’right we have’

“I mean yeah i just never thought you’d remember it” you looked down playing with the strings of your sweatpants as his gaze was fixed on you “why wouldn’t I?” he spoke furrowing his brows in question,you shrugged.

“you have a lot on your plate,with debut and stuff my name would be the least of your concerns” you spoke not looking up “well i don’t tend to forget the name of the girl everyone is telling me has the biggest crush on me”

earth open up and swallow me right now.

you froze,if you didn’t dare look up before you sure as hell weren’t going to now,why does he know?he wasn’t supposed to know,wait,that’s like a stupid question of course he would know everyone else does,you idiot y/n!

“can we not?” your voice came out thin and with a crack,you were crying,yes,you were just too nervous and embarrassed you couldn’t help it so you just kept your head down.

“wait,” he sat up,his face was no longer teasing as he realised you were crying “don’t cry,it’s nothing bad” reached over grabbing your hand,normally you would have died of happiness but right now you were dying from humiliation “no,seriously don’t cry” he tried to comfort you.

“i’m sorry” your words were barely audible as you whipped your tears with your other hand, “you can tell me if you want?” he spoke not wanting to pry yet still wanting to comfort you.

louis wasn’t gonna lie and say your feelings were one sided,they weren’t it’s just,they were a bit louder on your end.yes he liked you,he has for a while after seeing how hard you worked in improving yet also helping other people out,it was kinda hard not to fall for you,he wasn’t as expressive with his admiration but it was still there,he even told his members.

so seeing you cry right now because of his words made him feel bad,like really bad.

“please stop crying” he pleaded with you, his voice soft just how you liked it,but damnit it only made you cry more,why is he so stupidly perfect?

after a minute you calmed down aside from a few sniffles here and there,god,you were so gonna cringe at this later that’s inevitable for sure “sorry about that” she spoke but was quickly cut off “no,i’m sorry i shouldn’t have mentioned it” he apologised but you already decided,it was now or literally never.

“this was bound to happen so i’m just gonna say it,okay?” you spoke finally looking up at him to which he nodded letting you speak “i like you,and i know you and everyone else already know that but that’s besides the point,louis a like you so much to the point i can’t spend an hour of my day not thinking about you,” you internally hated that you were finally saying this out loud but you couldn’t keep it in anymore.

“you don’t have to except my confession,i promise you,i’ll be fine and will move on,but,” don’t say it,don’t say it

“if there is,even the slightest chance you might like me back,i’m pretty sure i’d disintegrate” you studied his face,he didn’t move an inch,how were you supposed to read that!?,like just say you hate me and move on,

before you could continue your overthinking,louis moved forward his hand coming up to your cheek,caressing it with his thumb before pulling you in,his lips pressed against yours.they were softer than you imagined and you couldn’t help but melt into it,your hand coming up to lay on his wrist.

as you guys pulled away from each other you both nervously laughed and pulled away from each other completely before he spoke “does that answer your question?” he smiled shyly as you did the same.

“yeah,yeah it did.”

it’s safe to say his manager was wrong, you won’t be moving on anytime soon.

rina was laying in her bed in the dorm scrolling on her phone watching ‘today’s k-pop updates’ as if she hasn’t gotten about five videos talking about the same thing but oh well.

she occasionally got a “jay parks evil cortis” video but she tends to skip all those videos,she knows what they are gonna say so she chooses to keep herself far from ‘those’ opinions.

i guess that’s what happens when you break k-pop standards your labelled for the worst over the smallest thing ‘how do these idols stay sane?…’ she thought.

“ri!” she heard ryul call her “hm” she hummed turning her head towards the door where the boy now stood“wanna hang out with us till 대표님 arrives?” he asked.

“ufff what’s the magic word?” she questioned as she sat up pulling her phone off the charger “I’m not gonna say it” ryul deadpanned.

“guess i cant bless you with my presence now” she joked looking at him while he gave her a death stare.

“tough crowd jeez… I’m coming I’m coming”

she stood up dragging her feet towards the door which brings a smile to ryuls face as he stepped aside giving her room to pass “jackass” she mumbled making the boy role his eyes.

“guys” rina made her presence known walking into the living area “hm” they all hummed in acknowledgement at her “we should get 대표님 to buy us something”

she said grabbing a bottle of water that was on the table “rina we’re filming” ohyul announced “oh…”she looked at the camera bottle half way tilted the top pressing against her bottom lip.

“can we like cut that out?” she asked

her cheeks flushed pink as she looked around the boys all staring at her,why are they looking at her like that,like a bunch of beggers eyeing you for money.

‘damn…look away’ she thought.

“i’m sorry,don’t be fooled people i’m a nice girl” she smiled and bowed to the camera making everyone laughs at her flusteredness

“wdym i literally blush every time i see ohyul” she deadpanned as the room bursted with ‘uhhhh’s’making her roll her eyes.

“i was joking you guys made it weird” she said looking over at ohyul who had a hand on his forehead laughing.

“are you guys seriously gonna leave the laundry unsorted when 대표님 comes?”

she questioned changing the topic. putting the water bottle down and pointing at their laundry,she always has hers gone the second she notices it’s done.

them on the other hand? yeah they leave theirs simmering for a couple days and than sort it (when rina yells at them).

they all collectively looked to where she was pointing “why are you guys still sitting?” “we were gonna just leave it there” woojin stated “but can you like not do that” she said looking down at her phone.

louis was the first one to start grabbing the clothes off the drying rack the others following in suit putting the clothes away.

“louis don’t forget to wash up when we get home,and tidy up your room” ohyul said “and rina don’t sleep in your outside clothes it’s bothersome” she nodded giving the older boy a thumbs up in agreence.

“woojin hit me btw” she said pointing at him.

“I did not!” he gasped.

“yes you did! you threw that shirt right at me!” “it wasn’t on purpose!” “see he’s getting defensive he totally did”

she pointed her finger at him.

“woojin be more careful next time” ohyul said making her smile and stick her tongue out at him causing the older boy to do the same.

not even two seconds later “woo?” she spoke looking up from her phone “yeah?” he answered still folding his clothes and placing them on-top of each other “can i wear your black hoodie?”

“rina you didn’t get me a gift” smirking teasingly at the young girl jay spoke it made her lift her eyes off the table at look up.

“hm? oh yeah ill make sure to put that on my list of goals for 2026” she spoke non chalantly it made the boys laugh including their boss.

“i’ll choose to ignore that,do you guys have a song your confident in singing live right now?” he asked.

“a confident song to sing live?” ohyul repeated leaning back to look at the man.

“facetime?” jay suggested nodding than hitting his fist onto the table than clapping his hands making a makeshift beat.

“~it’s okay to drift apart,yeah~”

“~so shawty, just hit me with the FaceTime~”

louis went first starting the song of with his part followed with ohyul and rina harmonising than ohyul sang his part.

“~distance doesn’t matter to us~”

“~right here,~”

this time woojin sang followed by ohyuls voice again.

“~can't wait to see~”

“and cut” rina spoke gesturing with her hands “we don’t want to spoil the whole song now”

“you’re right,you’re right let’s eat” jay spoke their food arriving shortly after and they began to cook the meat.

as they all ate rina was quite,she really hated making tension but her stupid brain wouldn’t stop replaying the scenario.

maybe because she was imagining all the other scenarios that would have been ten times worse but thank god it wasn’t.

what broke the girl out of her thoughts was a light nudge to her foot by ohyul who was sitting across from here nodding slightly as if asking if she was okay to which she replied to with a smile.

she wouldn’t dare act out of character infront of camera it’s bad for the group…

after they were pretty much half way through their meal their boss spoke aggravating rina a bit.

‘cant they just be quite?’ she thought in her head surprising herself even more she never thought like this before what is going on?

“but seriously,it’s just too…”

“you’re rookie isn’t this filming a piece of cake?” as he continued to speak rina could already tell where he was going at.

“for the next shoot,really just…you guys need to suffer.” he plastered a smirk on his face teasing them even more.

“jesus” rina sighed putting her head in her hands she didn’t say it to be funny but apperantly it was because it prompted everyone to laugh.

“let me see…” jay spoke pulling out his phone and calling someone making them all look at him nervously while rina still rested her head in her hands.

“we’re filming right now,i want them to pull up at yours to make them suffer”

after the whole restaurant thing they went to the company having to shoot a small interview before ending filming for the day.

they were all sat on the roof on what seemed to be equipment cases while the rest of the staff set up the cameras.

rina felt a bit nauseous after the food and stress and the cool air on the roof not to forget she didn’t sleep well,she just couldn’t wait to go back to the dorm and sleep.

the way they were sat was louis,woojin,rina,ryul & ohyul with rina and woojin sitting a bit more higher up.

“two,three” woojin counted down making a started action with his arms which prompted one of the staff lady’s to start asking questions.

“could you please introduce yourself?” she ask monotonely.

louis and rina looked at each other before starting their let’s say chant or whatever it is.

“aye,what’s good!,” the duo started speaking in sync than the other members joined in.

“it’s lngshot4sho! hello we are lngshot” they all now said in unison bowing their heads to the camera.

the staff cheered and clapped their hands which prompted the group to do the same.

“is there a reason the maknaes are starting the greeting?” the woman asked making the members look at each other.

“they have the best pronunciation” the other three boys said in unison making louis and rina smirk dabbing each other up.

“so usually ohyul does the ‘two,three’” woojin started explaining the format of their greeting.

“then they will start with ‘aye what’s good’” he continued placing both his hands on their shoulders.

than the interview went on as usual asking about the meaning of the name and how was today’s filming,basic questions.

than it came the last question [A word to the fans who watched the content?]

they all answered in a typical manner “ill be grateful to meet the fans after debut” blah blah blah.

rina at this point couldn’t care less about their yapping she felt like she was gonna barf all over everyone.

‘great for a first impression’ she thought to herself as she folded her arms over her stomach.

finally after what felt like hours for the young girl they decided to finish filming.

“let’s wrap up filming here” the lady that was previously asking the questions said.

“let’s gather some energy” woojin spoke making them all extend their arms out laying their hands on one another’s like before,doing the same chant as at the start of their filming.

“LNGSHOT!” they all yelled except rina who sad it in a lower volume than the rest but no one really cared.

after they finished filming they went back to their dorm kicking off their shoes the second they walked in.

woojin immediately went to the bathroom while the rest chilled in the living room.

rina took off louis zip up tossing it onto his bed before closing the door and heading to her room which thank god she had a room to herself.

she mumbled something to the remaining members in the area.

“i’m gonna go sleep” she said quietly looking more drained then ever.

as she started walking towards her room she was stopped by a pull on her wrist.

it wasn’t a hard tug by all means yet it aggravated her for some reason making her turn around seeing ryul who was half twisted in his chair looking at her.

“you said we could watch a movie” he asked her making her pull her arm out of his hold making the boy visibly shocked at her action.

god she didn’t mean it,what is happening right now?

“i’m tired go watch it with someone else” as her harsh words left her mouth she turned around again heading to her room.

than yet again being stopped by ohyuls voice this time “what the hell?are you okay?” he asked her,his eyebrows furrowed with worry and disbelief.

this was a first for all of them to witness she never reacted like this before.

“stop fucking asking me that i’m fine!” she turned towards him raising her voice slightly in frustration at the seemingly stupid question.

she slammed the door to her room before anyone could say anything else and make her act even more out of character.

the three boys were left stunned,looking at the door before looking at each other with ryul shrugging his shoulders and grabbing his phone and louis instinctively biting his nails which caused ohyul to smack his hand.

in the very moment woojin walked out of the bathroom,prefect comedic timing dare I say.

looking between the boys his face showed obvious confusion “what happened?”

meanwhile rina was currently already changed into her pyjamas by ohyuls request this morning “don’t sleep in your outside clothes,it’s bothersome”.

she was laying in her bed her lights already turned off as she was too tired to even look at her phone.

she felt so uneasy all she could do right now was let out quite tears and even she wouldn’t notice were there if she didn’t feel them run down her neck.

her brain kept thinking and overthinking again and again till the girl was so exhausted her eyes began to flutter closed.

but before she fell asleep she thought about one last thing,

-they first met when rina was walking into her audition,they bumped into each other apologising profusely to one another

-after that they stayed pretty close,having small talk in the halls and practicing together when everyone else was busy

-during this period rina developed a crush on him even tho she barely knew him,which she did end up confessing but sadly got rejected

-she’s 3 years younger than him he really didn’t want to catch a case

-surprisingly after her whole confession they got genuinely closer going from saying hi in the halls to walking together everyday

-rina also got over her crush pretty fast and they remained friends even tho they like to tease each other

-rina loved to stick around him every second she could because he was the only boy,or male in general,that she felt safe around aside from her step dad

-even tho all the other trainees would always tease him for letting her be “clingy” but he always defends her because he is the only person who knows about her past

DEBUT LINE UP

-their whole dynamic changed after they found out about the group (mostly rinas)

-they became distant,rina became quite and always left practice before everyone else

-which not only confused ohyul but everyone else as well.I mean it was her shot at debut after so many years yet she seemed unhappy by the choice

-ohyul didn’t understand it,he was quite happy about learning she was gonna be in the group despite the line up

-eventually after they first moved into their group dorm ohyul couldn’t help but notice the way she always stayed as far away from them,him,as much as possible

-eventually he couldn’t take it anymore,so when the timing was right and they were alone he’d confront her.

-the practice room felt smaller than usual.the air was thick with the scent of floor wax and the hum of the industrial AC.rina was focused on the laces of her sneakers, adjusting them for the fourth time in ten minutes just to avoid looking up

"you're going to snap those laces if you pull any harder," a voice said

-rina stiffened.ohyul was leaning against the mirrored wall, his arms crossed.he didn't look annoyed,he looked exhausted, the kind of tired that comes from trying to catch someone who keeps running away

"I’m just making sure they’re tight for the run-through,"

-rina mumbled, her voice barely audible over the ambient noise of the studio.

-"rina." he stepped into her line of sight, forcing her to look up or look through him. "It’s been two weeks.you haven't looked me in the eye since the CEO announced the final roster.we used to walk home every night.now, I don't even know if you’re in the building until I see your name on the sign-in sheet."

-rina finally stood up,her hands trembling slightly."It’s not you,ohyul.It’s... everything. I spent years preparing to be in a girl group.I had a vision of what my life would look like. And now? I’m the 'exception.'I’m the girl in a boy group. I’m scared that if I talk to you,if we’re us like we used to be everyone will look at me even more.I’m scared I won't fit in."

-ohyul stared at her,the realization dawning on him.hee hadn't considered that his presence was a reminder of how much her reality had shifted.

"so you're ignoring me to... what?blend in?" he let out a dry, short laugh. "rina, you’re the most talented person in this lineup.you don't 'fit in' because you’re supposed to stand out.but you can't do that if you're treating your best friend like a stranger."

-he took a step closer,dropping his voice. "I’m scared too.I've never been in a group with a girl.I don't know the rules yet.but I know that I can't do this if my person isn't talking to me."

-rina looked at him,really looked at him,for the first time since the announcement.he looked just as uncertain as she felt.the "cool older brother" facade was cracked.

"I don't want to be the reason people talk," she whispered, “they already do enough of that.”

"people are going to talk anyway," ohyul said, reaching out and tentatively flicking her shoulder,a ghost of their old teasing. "might as well give them something good to talk about.like how we’re going to run this industry."

“and i’ll always be there for you rina,like i promised”

-rina felt a small,genuine smile tug at the corner of her mouth.the "boy group" reality hadn't changed, but the room felt a little less suffocating.

-he was right.she couldn’t do this without him,hell she couldn’t do training without him let alone debuting.

-rina leaned forward pressing her cheek against his chest her arms wrapping loosely around his waist “thank you”

-ohyul grinned, the tension finally breaking as his arm wraps around her shoulders

-they first met when rina officially became a trainee

-she was heading to the cafeteria to grab water before heading back to practice,when she was approached by non other than mr kim ryul himself

-rina jumped when she randomly saw the boy infront of her almost dropping her water

-he didn’t say much other than the fact he noticed she was knew and that he’d see her around

-he didn’t even tell her his name or ask her for hers which definitely gave rina the impression that he’s a weirdo

-other than that they didn’t really talk to each other aside from when he was hanging out with ohyul and rina happened to be around

-he was unfortunately one of the many trainees that thought rina was weird for “clinging” on to ohyul,but that didn’t last long after he got to know more about her from ohyul

DEBUT LINE UP

-the boy was too stunned to speak,because out of all the things he was expecting a girl debuting with them was not a thought that ever accrued,let alone the girl being rina

-he came to dislike her not because she annoyed him in anyway shape or form he just saw the future the moment they all found out

-in his head articles about them were already getting made about they’re dysfunctional line up 

-and just like rina did to ohyul he started avoiding her,not that she wanted to talk to him either she was actively avoiding them all like the plague

-he just completely zoned out her presence like she wasn’t even there,which rina took notice of,just like she notice the way he would talk about her before finding out about the group

-she didn’t care,it was his problem not hers

-eventually after rina and ohyul made up ryul began to acknowledge her presence

-he would sometimes even give her a compliment as simple as complimenting her hair

-but what broke the camels back was when one day after practice was over ryul stopped rina before she left

-the mirror lined walls of the practice room were fogged with condensation,and the air was thick with the smell of sweat and ozone.the music had stopped minutes ago,and the rest of the group had already left,their voices fading down the hallway

-rina reached for her gym bag,her movements precise and detached.she didn’t look at ryul.she never did.

"rina."

-his voice felt heavy and awkward in the quiet space.ryul stood by the sound system, his hand hovering over the play button as if deciding whether to stay or leave.he looked tired,not just from dancing,but from the silence between them

-she paused,one strap slung over her shoulder."what?"

-ryul cleared his throat,his eyes fixed on his reflection.”the bridge,that floor work transition you added.I can't get the timing right."he paused,his jaw tightening." know you probably want to leave.and I know you probably don’t want to help me,especially after everything."

-he looked at her,bracing for a sharp rejection or the cold indifference she often showed."can you show me?just once?"

-rina stared at him for a long moment.the word "no" lingered on her tongue,but then she saw the frustration in his eyes,the same frustration she felt when her ideas didn’t come together in movement

-"put the track back to the three minute mark,"she said, dropping her bag

-at first,they barely spoke.It was all about the details,the angle of the wrist,the weight on the left heel,how the torso needed to snap.but as minutes stretched into an hour,the tension eased.there’s a unique closeness in working together on choreography; you have to trust each other's rhythm.for the first time since the line-up was announced, ryul didn't see a "dysfunctional" future or a scandalous headline.he just saw a dancer who was better than him

-when he finally nailed the transition,sliding into the last pose with perfect precision,they both stopped,breathing heavily

-they slumped against the mirrors,sliding down until they hit the floor.the silence was no longer sharp;it was just quiet

"you're fast,"rina said,leaning her head back against the glass."most people take twice as long to break that habit."

-he let out a short,dry laugh."I had a good teacher."

-she laughed but pushed his shoulder “i know I’m the best”,ryul smirked

-he toyed with the aglets of his hoodie,his voice lowering. "look.I’m sorry for how I acted.I wasn’t mad at you, specifically.I was just scared of what people would think.I thought a co-ed line up would ruin my career."

-he turned his head to meet her gaze,his expression sincere for the first time."I was a jerk.I ignored you because it was easier than admitting I was wrong about you."

-rina watched him for a moment,then gave a small,almost imperceptible nod."It was a jerk move.but the bridge looks better now. Don’t make me regret saying yes."

-ryul smiled,a genuine one this time."I'll try not to."

-ever since than it’s just non stop teasing with them you can never catch a break,they’ll go from teasing each other to teasing the next closest person together

-they first met when they both arrived at the practice room at 5 am on a sunday,both expecting to be alone

-they ended up spending the next three hours practicing in total silence,refusing to be the first one to take a water break out of pure spite

-why they were acting like full-blown enemies?who knows pretty sure even they didn’t know why it just,happened

-that was when their official rivalry began

-yet somehow instructors would always pair the two whenever it was time for evaluations,(highkey hinting at the debut line up)

-while everyone else was practicing and laughing together,rina and woojin were analyzing each others footwork praying one of them messes up

-tho they had a silent rivalry it was obvious they were “beefing” but sometimes you wouldn’t even be able to tell it was very confusing to most traniees and even coach’s

-like the time when rina tripped during a dance move when they were preforming for monthly evaluations but before the “judges” could even notice woojin caught her

-he somehow managed to turn rinas clumsiness into a dance move,a choreographed dip

-eventually they started sharing a “post-practice” meal at the convenient store near by,given that they were always the last to leave practice sometime around 2-3 am

-they always ate in silence even though they sat together,usually they’d just watch youtube on whoever’s phone had enough battery

-despite their bickering,if another trainee ever talked down about rina for being “pick me” (it was the companies fault,they were plotting against her like their life depended on it) woojin always told them not to assume stuff about people they don’t know

DEBUT LINE UP

-during rinas ‘great pull’ away from the boys after the line up,woojin was very confused to say the least

-he noticed the tension between ohyul,ryul and rina and rina avoiding him as much as possible even going as far as to not eye his every move while dancing

-she started ditching their late night ramen even going as far as skipping their usual midnight practice

-he tried to ignore it—be nonchalant but if he was being honest it was getting boring i mean yeah sure they’re doing a bunch of different things for debut but there was no rina

-she was there but she didn’t tease him or scoff at a mumbled remark he threw at her,not even try to hide the smile that cracked on her lips whenever he was being scolded

-if woojin was being quite honest he was a bit scared,what if she did something bad,or worse what if someone did something to her

-he felt huge a obligation to make sure rina came back to her senses,so that’s exactly what he did

-the rooftop of the agency building was freezing,the wind whipping the scent of rain and city exhaust against the metal railings.rina was leaning over the edge,her knuckles white as she gripped the cold bar.she was trying to memorize the skyline,convinced she’d be kicked out before the first music show.

-"you’re going to catch a cold and ruin the recording schedule,"a sharp voice cut through the wind.

-rina didn’t turn around.she knew the heavy,rhythmic thud of his boots anywhere. "go away,woojin.I’m just getting some air."

-"you’ve been 'getting air' for three weeks," he said, stepping up beside her.he wasn't leaning; he stood tall,his hands shoved deep into his leather jacket pockets."the instructors are asking why you’re acting like a ghost.even louis is scared to talk to you."

-"I'm doing them a favor," rina whispered,her voice cracking. "look at the practices room,woojin.they’re all calling me the 'plus one.' they say I’m just there for the shock factor.If I stay close to you guys,it just makes the 'girl' part more obvious."

-woojin let out a short,frustrated huff.he turned,leaning his back against the railing so he could look at her profile. "since when do you care about being obvious? you used to love it when the instructors told the guys they should dance more like you."

-"that was training.this is the real world,"she snapped,finally looking at him.her eyes were red-rimmed. "I don’t fit the concept,woojin.I'm a mess."

-"you're right,you don't fit the concept,"woojin said, stepping into her personal space,forcing her to look at him. "the concept is boring.but you? you’re the reason this group is actually going to be worth watching."

-“since when did you get so wise harry potter” she cracked a smile.

-he reached out,his thumb brushing a stray hair away from her face,his touch uncharacteristically gentle for a second before he flicked her forehead—hard.

-"ow! what was that for?!"

-"for being an idiot,"he grinned, that sharp,competitive spark returning to his eyes."I didn’t spend months trying to beat the best trainee in this building just for her to turn into a wallflower.If you’re a 'glitch,' then be the glitch that makes us popular."

-he held out a hand,his pinky extended.a childish gesture,

-"we’re gonna make the best music in kpop,you and me and the boys.If they talk,we’ll just give them something louder to listen to."

-“that’s a tad bit cocky”

-rina stared at his hand,then at his face.the "rival" she had spent months trying to outdo was the only one standing firmly in her corner.she felt a genuine,shaky smile break through.

-“you’re annoying you know that right?”

-"I know," woojin laughed,pulling her into a quick,one-armed shoulder hug."now let's go back down.you're buying the ramen."

ᴛʀᴀɪɴɪɴɢ

-during training period rina didn’t know who this kid was,yeah she saw him around the building but she never heard his name or even talked to him

-they sometimes shared a friendly smile when they’d accidentally run into each other

-she knew he hung out with ohyul,ryul and woojin and some other trainees,but nothing truly solid where she could talk to him with ease

-they were very much ‘oh a friend of my friend’vibe

-they never really got to meet properly during training because rina was always busy training she didn’t really focus on friendships aside from her and ohyuls because he was her only friend

-louis knew who she was mostly because of well ohyul,but he also knew that she wasn’t really liked by many trainees there

-he didn’t really understand why,she was a great dancer and good vocal and she could rap basically an ace in his eyes but he believed they were just intimidated by her

DEBUT LINE UP

-louis wasn’t stupid he knew this was coming,he knew that the company was planning something ever since they made girls and boys practice together

-the thing is whenever those practices happened usually they’d switch out the girls,but rina was always there she was never switched which made his theory even more solid

-so when it was announced he wasn’t at all surprised in his head he had the w intuition

-but when rina started ignoring them all he was more than confused ,what confused him even more was the non-stop tension whenever they were all together

-this poor kid would just be sitting on the leather couch in the recording room listening to ryul throw mumbled back handed comments that would earn him a side eye from rina before she’d storm out slamming the door

-he felt bad for rina,she was getting constant criticised from left to right by everyone while he couldn’t do anything about it but watch since she was very adamant about not wanting to be there

-he thought maybe he could try and lessen the burden on her shoulders

-the door was still vibrating from the force of rina’s exit.ryul’s last muttered comment about "attitude problems" hung in the air like heavy smog.louis didn't say anything to the others,he just grabbed his jacket and slipped out before the tension could latch onto him too.

-he found her exactly where he expected: the stairwell on the fourth floor,the one no one used because the light flickered.she was sitting on the top step, knees pulled to her chest,looking less ‘unbothered’than she usually pretended to be

-"you know," louis said,leaning against the railing, "if you keep slamming doors like that, the company’s gonna start deducting 'hinge repair fees' from our future checks."

-rina didn't look up. "go away,louis."

-"I would, but I’m starving.and technically,since we're in the same group,hunger is a team liability." he held up a plastic convenience store bag that rattled with the unmistakable sound of instant noodle cups.

-he sat down two steps below her, maintaining a respectful distance,and started peeling the lid off a spicy seafood ramen.the steam rose immediately,carrying that salty,artificial scent that somehow felt more comforting than anything in the sterile recording booth.

-"I’m not hungry," she lied.her stomach betrayed her with a loud growl a second later.

-louis didn't laugh.he just pushed a second cup—creamy carbonara style,her favorite,onto the step next to her. "eat.or don't.but I’m not leaving until the sodium levels in this room are dangerously high."

-she hesitated,then slowly reached down and took the cup.they ate in silence for a few minutes,the only sound being the flickering light above them.for the first time all day, rina’s shoulders weren't pushed up to her ears.

-"he hates me," she said quietly, staring into the ramen broth.

-"he’s intimidated," louis corrected, sliding his phone out. "there’s a difference. anyway,I didn't come here to talk about ryul’s bad vibes.I came here because I need a getaway driver."

-“you know i can’t drive,right?” she asked “i know”

-rina finally looked at him, one eyebrow raised. "so what do you mean?"

-louis turned his phone screen toward her. the bright, blocky interface of roblox was already loading. "I’m playing 'dress to Impress' and I am currently losing to a nine-year-old.I need someone with an actual sense of style to help me win, or my reputation is ruined."

-rina stared at the screen, then at him."you want to play roblox.right now.In the middle of a debut crisis."

-"umm, yeah," louis grinned,clicking into a lobby. "the world is ending,rina.the least we can do is make sure my avatar looks iconic while it happens.sit closer,you can't see the accessories from up there."

-a few minutes later,the "non-stop tension" from the recording room was replaced by rina’s sharp, genuine laugh as she deleted louis's choice of a neon-green fedora.

-"that's hideous,louis.give me the phone."

-leaning back against the wall,he watched her focus on the screen instead of the burden on her shoulders.

-for two days straight they saw each other at 3am,maki was in korea because they were going to be learning the choreo for ‘Run Wild’,and it just so happened to be rina who co-choreographed it and was stressing out

-did hybe use her for choreos and not let her pass monthly evolutions?yes,yes they did,you shouldn’t be surprised,they suck.

-yunjin is her unnie,their conversations very from politics to who’s team stefan or damon,yunjin also talked about rina on a weverse live not long after rina’s debut

-after rina left hybe,she moved to jyp where she didn’t really try to make any friends,also given that she didn’t stay there very long and quickly moved to starship entertainment

-rina was ‘killing it there’ she was really good and soon enough she made it to the high-staking evolution period for the group that eventually became kiiikiii

-they met at the said evolution period after being paired up for a dance break together,and even though many other trainees were competitive during this time kya and rina clicked instantly

-they would laugh and talk mid practice,still dancing to the music,they were very alike and were pretty close in age compared to maki and yunjin

-this might be cliche but martin and rina met after he came into a practice room to get his zip up that he carelessly forgot about,and rina was practicing a dance she couldn’t get right no matter how much she tried

-to which martin threw a comment at her about how she should straighten her feet to which she scuffed at him and told him to do it if he was so confident,and he did and it lead to them spending the next hour and a half just doing random shit teens do

-they also became friends after finding out they were both from canada,all patriotic and stuff, they would always tease each other though martin teased her more just to annoy her,it worked everytime

-they even had this running tradition where whoever got a C or lower on their weekly vocal check-in had to buy the other a specific peach soda from the 3rd-floor vending machine.

the tension in the practice room was high,all because you and woojin had a fight the previous night,why? because you caught him hitting it off with one of the trainee girls.

you know it wasn’t right to argue about something like that,it’s not like you guys were together it just made you feel discardable,having to hide that you guys were talking just because you were debuting together.

you always had to listen to the guys hyping him up about other girls and encouraging him to talk to them like you didn’t even exist,they didn’t know but still it hurt.what hurt even worse was he’d never stop them and would only smirk at the praise,it bothered you.

so the overbearing feelings made practice a bit harder for everyone.

the silence stretched for a long minute.woojin looked at Jay,then back at you.his shoulders finally slumped,the bravado evaporating.he rubbed the back of his neck,looking genuinely frustrated,mostly with himself as to why he let the situation escalate.

woojin mumbled,his voice barely audible. "I... I shouldn't have said you were dragging your feet.you're the hardest worker here.I was just tired from arguing and being a complete jerk."

you felt the anger drain out of you,replaced by that familiar, annoying soft spot you had for him,god it’s really gonna be the end of you "and I shouldn't have threatened to hit you. even if you deserved it."

"see?was that so hard?" jay clapped his hands together,hopping off the bench. "now,I’m taking this food and leaving before you guys start making out or fighting again.fix your faces."

as the door clicked shut behind jay,the room felt much larger,like the previous tension left along with the older man.practice continued normally,no arguing,until it eventually came to an end.

as everyone has already left the practice room you and woojin stayed behind unintentionally as woojin stepped forward to you "we still good?" he asked, his voice low and actually soft for once.

"yeah," you sighed,leaning your head against his shoulder,you knew this was gonna come back to bite you in the ass but you couldn’t help it,you wanted to be near him. "we're good. but if you mess up the count tomorrow,I'm actually swinging."
