My little brother Talon was born on August 17, 2015. About 15 weeks into the pregnancy, however, my dad and the baby's mother were informed of a genetic abnormality that the baby had, called Ring 18. Ring 18 has no known cause, and it's not common enough for lots people to know what it is. Ring 18 is when part of a child's 18th chromosome has been deleted, resulting in any number of mild to severe physical, anatomical, and mental disabilities. When we were told of this, there was no way possible for the doctors to know what was "wrong" with baby Talon. It was just a waiting game. The worst part of this was not being able to do research that would give them the answers that could help them rest at night. There are very, very, VERY few web pages and documents that are easily accessible for people to look into. My father has chosen to start a blog that can be found at ring18.com so that he can help out any other parents/families who are worried about Ring 18 and the way it affects their child. Even if this doesn't affect you personally, or you've never heard of this abnormality, please spread the word. It is nice to know that you aren't going through your struggles alone, and that's why my dad created the blog. He'll be updating with pictures, health updates, conversations with the doctors, and the like. ring18.com ring18.com ring18.com
