This Friday, September 7, join @asharaekundayogallery as we celebrate the opening of “Riot Babies: 50 Years on Detroit, Fire, and Freedom.” + DJ Mike Nicholls @umbermagazine will be spinning his mama’s record collection, with Anita Baker, Chaka Khan, and all the greats. Performances by BT CLN/Hood Hippies, with special segments from Wakanda Sun @wakandasun and Oracle Deck. + Live printmaking with Nico Gonzalez-Medina @nicopilsenite & Ashara Ekundayo @blublakwomyn. Free prints of “I AM A BLACK WOMXN” available while supplies last. + 6-9pm, Friday September 7! + Riot Babies is an inter-decade and intergenerational audio-visual dialogue around the impact of collective resistance on Black women’s artistic practice. It connects foundational energies of mass protests throughout the 1960s to flashpoints defining political epochs that have followed since, including this present moment.
